Final trade details

To Winnipeg: Dawson Mercer, Nico Daws, Alexander Command and Nick Bjugstad plus 2027 7th round pick and 2029 2nd round pick

To NJ: Connor Hellebuyck..

It wasn’t cheap. Alexander Command is the big piece here, the Devils had to part ways with their 2026 12th overall pick just months after drafting him

Winnipeg fans will enjoy Dawson Mercer, I don’t wanna downplay him. He is there to help their forward depth and he will definitely do that. Hes a solid middle 6 guy, Winnipeg can definitely use someone like him

Other pieces were less significant.
Nico Daws is pretty unknown but I’d say he’s likely to end up as an nhl backup. Bjugstad is kinda a throw in, makes the cap work and gives Winnipeg another forward option, NJ has no space for him. And a future 2nd and 7th round pick, no issue with that at all. NJ kept all their firsts

A lot of this trade rides on Alexander Command..

Dawson Mercer is a weird one

Someone who had his best play in his rookie year / year 2, but never really seemed to grow much after that. I’d say most devils fans are pretty much fine with him going in this trade

Always solid, good effort good forechecker. Definitely has skill but maybe not enough skill to become a normal top 6 guy. He was good as a complementary third guy

Great guy, of course was drafted by us so it makes it a bit more emotional to see him go. I wish him the best and will always root for him

Winnipeg having bad offers up until now gives me hope that MAYBE they are settling a bit here

Now even if they are settling Helle is gonna be pricey. But maybe Sunny waited for his moment and got a steal. That’s what I’m hoping for

@jp_gambatese People act like he lied. 2 things can be true. Sunny feels goalies are generally unpredictable. But sunny also knows Hellebuyck is a top goalie and this team doesn’t have a #1. I’d take a bet on the former vezina and hart winner 😂
