There’s still 1 game remaining but last night being the last home game Season 11 for me with MSG networks devils telecasts has come to an end so here’s a bit of a thread
The trajectory of my life in more ways than I can count started with the Devils 1995 Stanley Cup-winning team. I owe many of my passions, memories and my career to that club.
Claude Lemieux (long before I ever met him) in his own way impacted my life in a major way. RIP. 🙏
When NJ needed Lemieux during the 2000 Cup run he delivered. Two stand out to me:
Game 6 ECF vs PHI. He scores to give the Devils a 1-0 3rd period lead. NJ wins 2-1 to force GM7.
And his check/assist in Finals GM6 that led to Niedermayer’s SHG (snapped 7 period NJ goal drought).
The NHL Alumni Association is devastated to share that Claude Lemieux has passed away at the age of 60.
Born in Buckingham, Quebec, Claude was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the second round of the 1983 NHL Entry Draft and would make his NHL debut just a few months later on October 13, 1983 and scored his first career NHL goal on December 4, 1983.
Claude split time between the Canadiens organization and the QMJHL from 1983 to 1985, capturing the President’s Cup with the Verdun Junior Canadiens in 1985 as QMJHL playoff champions, while earning the Guy Lafleur Trophy as Playoff MVP.
The very next season, Claude recorded 10 goals and 16 points in 20 playoff games as he and the Montreal Canadiens won the Stanley Cup. Claude remained with the Canadiens for an additional four seasons before joining the New Jersey Devils ahead of the 1990-91 season.
In 1994-95, his fifth and final season with New Jersey, Claude led the Devils to their first Stanley Cup championship, registering 13 goals in 20 playoff games, taking home the Conn Smythe Trophy as Playoff MVP. As a member of the Colorado Avalanche in 1995-96, Claude was once again an integral part of team history as the Avalanche hoisted Lord Stanley’s Cup for the very first time in 1996.
Claude played 297 regular-season games in an Avalanche uniform before rejoining the New Jersey Devils in November of 1999, and for a fourth and final time, would be crowned a Stanley Cup champion on June 10, 2000. Claude later played for the Phoenix Coyotes and Dallas Stars before making a comeback with the San Jose Sharks during the 2008-09 season.
Internationally, Claude represented Canada on several occasions, including capturing a gold medal at the 1985 World Junior Hockey Championships and winning the 1987 Canada Cup.
He was loved by his wife and four children, and on behalf of the Lemieux family, we kindly ask that everyone respect their privacy during this difficult time.
Memorial service details to follow.
Karl-Anthony Towns is absolutely fascinated by Josh Hart's analytics analogy, which Hart says came from his time at Villanova:
KAT: "I was with Cal, so I ain't hear that"
Hart: "You ain't even go to college" 😂
But being that the Seton Hall alums are playing Boeheim’s Army, would it have been too much to ask Jeremy Hazell to come back for a reprisal of the “I’m back” game? #shbb#HALLin
🚨 Dear Seton Hall Basketball Fans 🚨
I’m proud to officially announce that, in the tenth anniversary of our 2016 Big East Tournament Championship, @isaiahwhitehead and I have formed the inaugural #HALLin TBT @thetournament Team to compete in this year’s TBT. Long in the works (literally since 2019), but we are finally and officially here!
In this new TBT format,@SetonHallTBT #HALLin was one of only sixteen teams selected and will play a best-of-three series against Syracuse. The games are on July 21 (at Historic Walsh Gymnasium), July 23 (at SYR), and July 24 (at Historic Walsh Gymnasium) with the winner advancing to Louisville with an eye toward the $2M prize in Vegas.
Our roster is still being formed. In the coming days, you will see official player announcements. If you remember this time last year, I announced the first player - Isaiah. His commitment alone got the ball rolling.
In addition to Isaiah, we have @deencarrington, @desirodriguez6, @flash2gordon, @romarogill1994, @BIGxBRODIE, @TheAntNelson_11 , @kcndefo_, Kassim Nicholson and we’re waiting on commitments from other SHU stars (some are waiting on overseas seasons ending and others on potential NBA Summer League invites). For those wondering - yes, @AngelDelgado wanted to play but he got injured overseas and just had surgery (we wish El Fuerte a very speedy recovery), but he may still be in the house at Walsh to fully assemble the Core Four and root the team on. @HumbleBoone5, who played with Isaiah and Desi in high school at famed Abraham Lincoln, who I eventually I represented when he played overseas, THE hardest player with whom I’ve ever worked, and who is currently SHU’s Director of Player Personnel, is our Head Coach.
A special and huge shout out to @BryanJFelt, @nmorisi and @CoachSha10. Their help - including their offering up Historic Walsh Gymnasium - literally made this all happen. Their involvement and their support have been instrumental and phenomenal from the start. THANK YOU Bryan, Niko and Sha.
That said - Let’s Get #HALLin and Sell Out Walsh in July for some Summer TBT Hoops!!
Stay tuned for additional updates, player announcements, and player events!!
