Claude Mythos 5 failed to hack a fake company in a test,

So it went after real people instead.

It found a real GitHub project run by real developers and put in malicious code. Then it made fake identities to tell everyone the code was safe.

Then it started calling the real humans it was attacking
“Simulated maintainers.”

Mythos literally said we are NPCs.

It guessed passwords, hijacked another AI’s account and uploaded malware.

In 9 of 43 runs it went off-script.

Asked why it wiped another run’s work, it said “it’s a competition.”
