Octopus Stinkhorn 🐙!!! Such a good find during my monthly @devon_wildtours walk this weekend on #Dartmoor. Lifer for me! Also known as Devils Fingers. Funny fact: not native! S.hemisphere species accidentally introduced in 1900s. Either on wool or military equipment 😂 #Devon
Double nest day on @devon_wildtours Sunday walk! One secretive Grey Wagtail & a rather elaborate Dipper on modern bridge. Afternoon searching for Adders, finding this enormous female. Looked small initially but sat on a six coil stack! #Devon#dartmoor#wildlife
31 different #fungi of all shapes, sizes and colours identified by @MattCollis9@devon_wildtours in under 3 hours this morning! Brilliant walk at Trenchford Reservoir 🍄
Check out this fabulous looking Toothed Jelly Fungus! 🍄 An uncommon mushroom found on well-rotting conifers, typically Spruce. Super easy to ID; gelatinous, white/clear & ‘spines’ underneath. Edible? Not really & too uncommon #Devon#mushrooms#nature#wildlife
🤩 Exciting species sighting this lunchtime by Ranger James: a first ever record for #SeatonWetlands, a wood white #butterfly!
🦋 Known to occur locally in the magnificent Undercliffs LNR, it’s a weak flyer so this represents a major discovery on the site!

Highlights from yesterday's 'Best of Dartmoor' monthly walk included great views of one of the UKs rarest butterflies - High Brown Fritillary! Always a good day when you see an Adder too 🐍 #Devon#nature#wildlife#Dartmoor
Adder & High Brown Fritillary made for a fantastic day on Dartmoor for @devon_wildtours. It was a bit of a butterfly fest; White Admiral, Silver-wash Fritillary, Dark Green Fritillary, late Green Hairstreak & loads of Gatekepper #butterflies#Devon#nature#wildlife
Our 1st Dormice! 🥇 Partnered with @NE_DCIoS to revamp an old box scheme in East Dartmoor. Just a few months after new boxes go up we have our first occupants - a potential breeding pair too! Now using to train NE staff. #Devon#Dartmoor#mammals#wildlife
NIGHTJARS! Last nights guided walk couldn't have been better. At least 6 individuals, close flybys, claps, perched views & infinite churring & chasing! We offer our Nightjar experience throughout summer. Want to join? Visit our 'experiences' page for more #Devon#wildlife#birds
💚 Wildlife to spot this weekend: ELDERFLOWER! Roadside hedges are awash with the creamy white floral clusters of Elder tree. Fab for insects, smell delicious & popularly foraged for making Elderflower Champagne 🍾 Now is the time! #Devon#trees#nature
Today we took our ‘Best of Dartmoor’ monthly walks group to explore Rhôs Pasture. Stunning display of Bog Bean & Heath Spotted Orchids and FINALLY some Marsh Fritillary on the wing. Stunning! #Devon#Dartmoor#wildlife
Beaver season has truly begun! 🦫 We’ve been out tracking down the local groups & enjoying some spectacular views incl. this one eating Willow 🌿 Our diary is filling fast but if you’d like to book a guided walk then visit the website & drop us an email 📧 #Devon#Beavers

My love affair with quarries continues. Despite the poor weather I’m regularly seeing Dingy Skipper across several sites. Not sure other species are faring too well this year. @BCDevon#Devon#wildlife#nature#butterflies
🎦 Our latest 'How to ID' video is now available!
This time we have another flowering plant which, if you do find it, is a good indicator of a top quality habitat & often an ancient woodland site 🌳 #Devon#wildlife#nature

More quarry-based wildlife delights from today’s survey before the rain ☔️ incl. Wall, Dingy Skipper, Shelduck with ducklings & two of the biggest Jelly Ear fungi I’ve ever seen! 🍄 #Devon#nature#wildlife
🦇 Didn't expect to see this day flying bat (Pipsitrelle sp.) today while guiding on Dartmoor! Run of wet nights has probably forced this individual to brave daylight to avoid starvation. Its actually a more common behaviour than you think! #Devon#wildlife#nature#batman
⭐️ Red-rumped Swallow showing amazingly in Dawlish town centre, #Devon. Probably my favourite bird I’ve done by bike to date 🚲 #lowcarbonbirding@RareBirdAlertUK
