#Lebanon is facing its gravest escalation of violence since the 2006 war.
The U.S. government has a unique responsibility to press for an immediate de-escalation before the situation spins further out of control. Our statement from @hardinlang1.

We must do better by Afghan women and girls. Afghanistan faces the most severe women’s rights catastrophe in the world and is considered by many to be gender apartheid and even constitute a crime against humanity. We cannot let this kind of behavior stand ever, let alone in 2024.
Three years ago today, the #Taliban took over #Afghanistan. Since that time, the situation in the country has deteriorated. The Taliban have instituted draconian restrictions on Afghan #women and #girls, denying them their human #rights.
We call on the U.S. government to:
👉Prioritize the needs of Afghan women and girls in all policy decisions
👉Support Afghan women-led organizations
👉Adhere to the Women, Peace, and Security Act and Strategy.
Last words from @KholoodKhair to the #UNSC: “Though pursuit of a ceasefire in #Sudan is necessary, a ceasefire alone will not save lives. The best way to accomplish this is through a mission to protect civilians.”

Yesterday @QulshTM & Samson Omondi published a new report about the new #Kenyan#refugee law. I began my career in #Dadaab in 2006. The desperation I witnessed was extraordinary. So many refugees have been in Kenya so long. #Integration is long overdue. https://t.co/3mUAigj7fb
Today, we joined 63 organizations in calling on Senate Approps leaders to reject House cuts to critical #humanitarian#aid & #development assistance accounts. #US leadership must help prevent international crises, protect people, & the planet. Read more: https://t.co/uQY0hGX1fU

Armine Afeyan @ahafeyan, Executive Director of the Aurora Humanitarian Initiative: “The women and girls in the #DRC cannot afford to wait. They need our support, our voices, our action. We must rally together to bring hope and tangible change to their lives. It is our collective responsibility to stand in solidarity with them, to amplify their stories, and to ensure their suffering does not go unnoticed.”

This is big news! #France has just decided that ALL #Afghan women should be considered refugees due to their #gender. This reiterates what activists like myself have been saying for years- that Afghan women face protection risks & should not be sent back.
