sometimes you just want to see a STEP file without wondering if you should brew your coffee while you wait to see it
that's why be built https://t.co/G7w1YjY0gY
we've been using it a lot for video interviews at @gofinalrev
- send candidate link and cad file
- candidate can open it up in a few seconds
- they choose their mouse gestures that matches their preferred cad
- built in annotation and assembly functionality as they walk through a CAD or machining problem
files are parsed and rendered entirely in your browser using webassembly. we don't upload cad files, their geometry, or any derivative of them to any server. if you want, load the site then turn off internet - still works
@devonkcopeland taking a break from slinging code and is practicing his hype man persona, schooling us on how to make the most out of https://t.co/bNj4fxzK0g
putting scannable dot matrix codes (similar to QR) on all our tools for tool tracking and offline tool setting
big debate on whether we should make the human-readable code right side up in the storage rack or in the machine, what do you think?
@2armsgoin3@2armsgoin3 we've had that request before but the thing I always get hung up on is the tools would fall out of our trays. How would you get around it? Maybe slant the trays at 60º so the tools are held at an angle?

@amypretzel Absolutely! Tooltrace supports gridfinity mode for 3D printing and foam mode for laser cutting. Download the SVG or DXF and you're good to go
3D printing tends to be more accessible for consumers these days but for lean manufacturing setups laser cut foam is for sure better
We built a CAD search engine!
@d4ferris and I indexed 1 million parametric CAD models using AI-generated captions and embeddings as a side project.
