There is a growing movement to demonize empathy by right-wing Christian leaders. This year, Allie Beth Stuckey and Joe Rigney have released books called The Sin of Empathy and Toxic Empathy.
Not only is this completely contrary to the Way of Jesus, who is described by the author of Hebrews as someone who empathizes with us in every way, it is a blatant attempt to give divine credence to cruelty.
Christians denouncing empathy as sinful are just looking for religious justification to be a jerk.
