The DevSwaD Journey – From a Crisis to a Mission

The story of DevSwaD began in 2020, during one of the most challenging periods in recent #history—the first wave of the #COVID-19 pandemic.

As the nationwide lockdown brought normal life to a standstill, many #farmers in #Bhagalpur and nearby regions of Bihar faced a serious problem. Their produce was ready, but markets were closed, transportation was disrupted, and they had no clear way to reach #customers. Amid this uncertainty, a few farmers reached out to us with a simple request:

"Can you help us find customers for our products in #Bangalore?"

What started as an effort to support a few struggling farmers soon became a larger #mission.

We realized that while thousands of people from #Mithila, #Anga, #Bihar, #Purvanchal, and other parts of India were living in Bangalore and across the country, they were finding it difficult to access authentic #traditional food products from their #homeland and during Covid it was more difficult to get even basic #food items. The products available in the market often lacked the purity, taste, aroma, and authenticity that people remembered from their #childhood and #village homes.

With a desire to help both the farmers and our #community, we began our journey.

However, the path was far from easy.

One of our biggest challenges was sourcing #genuine Katarni Rice and Katarni Chuda (Poha). Although Katarni is one of Bihar's most treasured traditional #rice varieties, finding truly #authentic products with the original #aroma and #taste was not easy. We spent months interacting with farmers, visiting cultivation areas, understanding traditional processing methods, and building relationships based on #trust and #transparency.

After extensive groundwork and persistent efforts, we established a #reliable network of dedicated farmers and traditional producers who shared our commitment to #purity and #authenticity.

This marked the beginning of DevSwaD.

What makes DevSwaD even more #special is that it is a 100% #women-led operation in Bangalore. From sourcing coordination and quality checks to customer engagement, packaging, and fulfillment, #women have been at the heart of every aspect of the DevSwaD journey.

Since then, DevSwaD has worked with a simple purpose:

🌾 To support farmers by providing them access to wider #markets and #fair #opportunities.

🍚 To help families reconnect with pure, traditional Mithila, Anga, and Bihar food products.
