I quit my job a few years ago so I could be an independent consultant.
The difference in my daily routine is amazing.
Before, as a full-time dev:
6am - Wake to alarm
630 - Drive to work
7-4 - At work. Eat breakfast and lunch at desk while working.
430 - Home. Fam time and dinner.
7-10 - Build my consulting biz
After, as an independent:
7ish - Wake to sunlight - No alarm
730 - Breakfast
8-930 - At gym with my wife
930-4 - Client work in my home office. Lunches with friends and fam. Afternoon walk with my wife.
4-9 - Relax. Fam time. Read.
Independence is amazing. Getting here was hard, but worth it.
Terrific visualization of the minimum core functionality and commands of Git.
This is almost all (perhaps add log and status) you need to get going with Git from the CLI. Practise it, with the stages in mind, featured as columns, and you will be on your way.
@wesbos Just so I follow, we are putting focus on pleasing TS before making the functions less impure, i.e. the functions could have improved signatures with the webcam object or videoWidth as parameters?
Vite Tip: Seeing weird behavior? Run the build. Here's why:
Today I taught a team React with Vite. Someone's changes weren't applying on save.
Vite would load the latest file changes successfully on startup, but then fail to show any updates upon save.
Super confusing... 👇
Did you know that the phrases uppercase and lowercase came from the box the printers used to set the type? The caps were in the upper case and the smaller letters were in the lower case. #WritingCommunity#Print
⚛️ React context tip that I didn't learn until recently:
The Provider is *optional* – you might not need it!
This makes working with React context simpler for singleton-like ("global") usage.
Your mistakes don't define who you are. It's what you do after you have made the mistakes that makes all the difference.
Every mistake you make is a learning experience. They don't make you less capable. But it's how you correct them or learn from them that defines you.
The publishers of my book Code That Fits in Your Head are giving away three free copies of the DRM-free eBook.
For your chance to win retweet this tweet. Entries will close by the end of the week. Good luck!
