पश्चिम बंगाल के दक्षिण 24 परगना ज़िले का रहने वाला ये शख्स छह साल पहले अपने 15 साथियों के साथ बंगाल की खाड़ी में हल्दिया के पास मछली पकड़ने गया था। तभी अचानक समुद्र का रुख बदल गया तेज़ तूफान उठा, लहरें बेकाबू हो गईं और देखते ही देखते ट्रॉलर पलट गया।

हर कोई समंदर की विशाल लहरों में बह गया... रवीन्द्रनाथ भी।

लेकिन वो डरने वाला नहीं था। पेशे से मछुआरा होने के कारण पानी उसका दुश्मन नहीं, साथी था। उसने हार नहीं मानी।
वो तैरता रहा… तैरता रहा… ऊपर बस आसमान, नीचे अथाह पानी।घंटे बीते, दिन बीत गए।

5 दिन तक रवीन्द्रनाथ समंदर में अकेले तैरता रहा, न खाना, न पीने का पानी, सिर्फ़ ज़िंदा रहने की जिद। जब बारिश होती, वो वर्षा जल पीकर खुद को जीवित रखता। हर पल मौत नज़दीक थी, लेकिन हिम्मत उससे ज़्यादा मज़बूत थी।

5वें दिन… क़रीब 600 किलोमीटर दूर, बांग्लादेश के कुतुबदिया द्वीप के पास, एक जहाज़ 'एमवी जवाद' गुजर रहा था। जहाज़ के कप्तान ने दूर से समंदर में कुछ हिलता देखा। ध्यान से देखा… कोई इंसान तैर रहा था!

कप्तान ने फ़ौरन एक लाइफ जैकेट फेंकी, लेकिन रवीन्द्रनाथ तक वो नहीं पहुंची। फिर भी कप्तान रुके नहीं… उन्होंने सीमाओं, धर्मों, जातियों की रेखाओं को भुलाकर सिर्फ़ एक चीज़ देखी --- इंसान।

कुछ दूरी पर रवीन्द्रनाथ फिर नज़र आए, और इस बार कप्तान ने जहाज़ घुमा दिया। लाइफ जैकेट फेंकी, और इस बार रवीन्द्रनाथ पकड़ने में कामयाब रहे।

एक क्रेन से उसे ऊपर खींचा गया थका हुआ, अधमरा, लेकिन ज़िंदा। जब वो जहाज़ पर चढ़ा, तो पूरे जहाज़ के नाविक खुशी से चिल्ला उठे।वो सिर्फ़ एक इंसान को नहीं, इंसानियत को ज़िंदा देख रहे थे।

उस लम्हे का वीडियो जहाज़ के एक नाविक ने रिकॉर्ड किया और वो दृश्य आज भी देखने वालों की रूह तक को हिला देता है।

आपने सिर्फ़ एक जान नहीं बचाई आपने हमें याद दिलाया कि इंसानियत अब भी ज़िंदा है।

कभी-कभी एक इंसान की जिद, और दूसरे इंसान की करुणा , पूरी दुनिया को बेहतर बना सकती है

Yesterday, I went to a slum area in Bombay, to get a special leg work out machine crafted.
The guy was sitting in a grimy, cluttered shop with lathes, drills, etc. Showed me a catalog and said " I can deliver you such stuff". They were amazing looking, top quality. I happily thought " We are on the cusp of mfrg boom finally".
I asked " You can really make me this??" He said : "Sir, I import from China and assemble it here. Their quality, finish, look, is simply unmatchable".
