Lagos Transport Commissioner Rallies Regulated Bus Operators, Drivers, on Safety, Professionalism

The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to a safe, efficient, and people-focused transport system, as the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) hosted its first quarter “Village Meeting” with drivers, franchise operators, and key stakeholders.

Speaking at the engagement, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, commended transport operators and drivers for their critical role in powering the state’s economy and shaping its public image. He urged them to take pride in representing Lagos, while stressing the importance of strict compliance with traffic laws to ensure safety and order across the network.

The Commissioner noted that adherence to regulations remains non-negotiable, adding that the government will continue to enforce standards necessary for a disciplined and reliable transport system. At the same time, he reassured operators of the state’s commitment to their welfare, encouraging transport companies to strengthen staff welfare packages to promote professionalism and improve service delivery.

Head of Bus Services, Dr. Kemi Amure, who represented the Managing Director of LAMATA, Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, provided a detailed review of resolutions from previous stakeholder engagements. The session offered an opportunity to assess progress, identify gaps, and reinforce the collective responsibility of all parties to raise service standards across the sector.

The meeting also featured presentations from key regulatory and security agencies, including LAMATA’s Environmental, Social, Health and Safety (ESHS) unit, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Access ARM Pensions, the Lagos State Drivers’ Institute (LASDRI), and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
The presentations highlight the vision of LAMATA for a world class transport system that meet stakeholders expectation and drive the growth of Lagos.
Stakeholders described the forum as a valuable platform for collaboration, dialogue, and continuous improvement, underscoring Lagos State’s ongoing efforts to build a modern, safe, and commuter-friendly transport system.
