Heartbroken about Marin Mazzie. Saw her in PASSION and RAGTIME, and last saw her going into the stage door with her husband after a performance of HAMILTON. I have a Hirschfeld drawing of her on my wall.
About to see the Broadway revival of ANGELS IN AMERICA, the greatest play of my lifetime. Saw multiple productions of it in the 90s (Broadway, tour, London, Toronto, Trinity Rep) but haven’t seen it live this millennium. The great work begins.
@kmdames “The white cracker who wrote the national anthem knew what he was doing. He set the word ‘free’ to a note so high nobody can reach it. That was deliberate. Nothing on earth sounds less like freedom to me.”
— Belize in Tony Kushner’s ANGELS IN AMERICA.
About to see William Finn’s new musical “The Royal Family of Broadway” @BarringtonStage, and who should my daughter spot in the audience but @AudraEqualityMc (here to see her husband perform), who was incredibly gracious. We’re seeing her perform tomorrow @TanglewoodMA.
For Father’s Day, I’m treating myself to a production of MAME (a musical I’ve somehow never seen) @NSMusicTheatre. There’re helping me relive my youth when I was often one of the youngest members of the audience. Cast includes favorites Bob Walton and George Dvorsky.
I have fond memories of the original Broadway production of ONCE ON THIS ISLAND, but the current revival is its own thing, and every bit as magical. @OnceIslandBway
