Troops Rescue Five Kidnap Victims as Military Offensive Intensifies in Kogi

Troops of the 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating under the 2 Division Nigerian Army, have rescued five kidnapped victims who were abandoned by fleeing terrorists during ongoing counter-terrorism operations in Kogi State.

The rescue operation was carried out on Tuesday, June 17, 2026, as security forces intensified efforts to consolidate recent gains recorded from coordinated ground and air offensives against terrorist enclaves in the state’s forested areas.

Military sources disclosed that the operation formed part of sustained efforts aimed at dismantling criminal networks linked to notorious terrorist kingpins and denying them freedom of movement within the Brigade’s area of responsibility.

According to the military, troops deployed from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Oshokoshoko were conducting a blocking operation along the Oshokoshoko–Adankolo route within the Adankolo Forest following a recent air interdiction mission targeting a known terrorist hideout in the area.

During the operation, the troops intercepted five kidnap victims who had reportedly been abandoned by the terrorists while fleeing intense military pressure on their camps.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the victims regained their freedom after the terrorists dispersed in the aftermath of ongoing military operations against their hideouts.

The rescued individuals were immediately secured and evacuated from the forest to a safe location before being transferred to a military medical facility, where they received medical attention and stabilization.

Military authorities said the victims were also debriefed to provide intelligence that could support ongoing operations aimed at tracking down and neutralizing the remaining terrorists operating in the area.

Efforts are currently underway to reunite the rescued victims with their families after the completion of necessary medical and administrative procedures.

The latest rescue underscores the impact of sustained military operations against terrorist and criminal elements operating in parts of Kogi State and surrounding areas.
