Great Power Games: From Western Decline to Eastern Ascent | Vikram Sood ... https://t.co/ReNpcyon0j via @YouTube At the Pondicherry LitFest last weekend. Discussion with @AloPal. A most enjoyable weekend because of the quality of various discussions.
So, the Ojibwe and Cree Nations believe that the Northern Lights are the spirits of dearly departed loved ones — dancing their way home to the stars.🪶✨
The first amazing feat of genetic engineering in history occured some 6000 years back when Native Americans in what is now southern Mexico created the species of crop known as maize or corn—a staple of the human diet today!
13 July 1660 CE. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had been under siege for 4 months at Panhala Fort by Siddi Jauhar, general of Bijapur Sultanate. Food over. Monsoon pounding.
On the night of 12 July, Shivaji slipped out with 600 men in heavy rain. 10,000 strong Siddi's army pursued him.
Shivaji had to get to Vishalgad, 70km away. He had to pass through Ghod Khind. It was a narrow pass, just wide enough for a few men.
At the mouth of the pass, his general, Baji Prabhu Deshpande, stopped. He was in his 50s, a Deshpande (village administrator) from Bhor. He had been with Shivaji since the beginning.
He said: "Raje, you go to Vishalgad. I will hold here until you are safe. When you reach Vishalgad, fire the cannon - 3 shots. Until I hear that, I will not leave this pass."
Shivaji said: HOLD.
So Baji Prabhu took 300 Marathas (the Bandal army - his own men) and formed across Ghod Khind. What happened next is in every Marathi household's blood.
Siddi's advance guard hit them. 10,000 men. They could not outflank in a narrow pass. 10k had to fight 300 one at a time.
The fight went on for 18 hrs. Through the night & into next morning. In pouring rain.
The Marathas fought with dandpatta - a 4 feet of blade extending from your fist. They HELD the line.
On the other side, Shivaji fought his way to Vishalgad (held by Bijapuri loyalists). He had to take it first. When he finally entered Vishalgad, he ordered the cannon fired.
In Ghod Khind, Baji Prabhu was already mortally wounded. He was shot, bleeding. His men later said he was still standing, propped against rock, sword in hand, when the distant cannon thumps rolled through the valley.
Only then did he fall.
He had held.
Of 300, almost all died. Of 10,000, Siddi lost hundreds trying to push through.
Siddi Jauhar was never able to get hold of Shivaji again. He went on to found Hindavi Swarajya.
Afterwards, Shivaji renamed the pass Pavan Khind (Sacred Pass). It had been purified by blood.
Marathi children still learn the line: "Ghod Khind ladhli, Baji Prabhu padla..."

Putin already knows India is not one culture. Russians fly there for winter holidays to beach cities in India They have workers are in Russia, as they are in Israel and the Gulf.
Israeli’s visit India in the summers and stay in Valleys in Himalaya.
Recent surveys now put Germany ahead of the US as the top study choice for Indian students. If H-1B closes, people go home, or they go to Europe and Canada. Either way, life goes on.
Everyone has to live. This hate against Indians, and against India, is uncalled for. It is being fed from the top, including Vance. He keeps the H-1B fight alive and does not settle it. Democrats do the same. Close H-1B if that is the decision. Do not turn Indians into the issue.
Indians are not going to blast bombs or flood streets. That is not us. Stop the hate.
Enough of this nonsense.
@LukasSchubertMT You are funny! Only 0.9% of Montana population are of Asian origin and it seems they are Vietnamese. So all your histrionics is for nothing! Nobody is marching over to Montana. You can have it all to yourself!
October 2nd to 4th needs attention.

I have written a detailed prediction regarding this aspect. Sharing the link before
Too many planetary energies are converging around 8° at the same time. Mars, Mercury, Pluto and Neptune are creating a highly sensitive pattern, and Mercury is under maximum pressure.
Watch communication, technology, information, negotiations, transport and decisions very carefully. On the global level, misunderstandings or sudden developments involving governments and conflict could become more visible.
Those with important planets around 8° Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn may experience this period more personally.
Do not unnecessarily exhaust yourself during these few days. Avoid impulsive reactions and important arguments. Preserve your energy and observe before responding.
I am not sharing this to create fear. Difficult transits pass. Awareness simply helps us navigate them better.
October begins with intensity.
Stay alert. Stay grounded.
@SamaHoole This is the fundamental economic model of 'capitalism'. All economic activity of society is engineered so that Caeser gets his cut. They will brand and tax each breath and heartbeat if they could.
🇮🇳 REMEMBER THIS MAN: CAPTAIN SMIT MACHCHHAR.
An Indian captain flying hundreds of people from Dubai to Tel Aviv was stabbed in his own cockpit.
Wounded, bleeding, with the aircraft plunging thousands of feet, he fought back.
Then passengers and crew did something extraordinary:
They stormed the cockpit.
They restrained the attacker.
Other pilots took control.
And that plane LANDED.
Hundreds of families got their loved ones back today because ordinary people refused to freeze when everything went wrong.
Captain Smit Machchhar — India and the whole WORLD should be proud of you. 🇮🇳
And to the passengers and crew who ran toward the danger instead of away from it:
Heroes. Every single one of you.
This is what courage looks like.
Jason is a good Irish man.
But Jason do you know that Irish immigrants didn’t arrive in America as instant success stories ?
Many failed. They faced discrimination, poor English, low wages, and religious persecution. A lot of them went back to Ireland. That’s not a talking point — that’s history.
There are more people of Irish descent in America than in Ireland today. That number would be even higher if so many hadn’t returned. The same pattern showed up with Italians, Germans, the French, Eastern Europeans — and you can see versions of it with Latino immigrants now.
So when someone tells first-generation Indians — which is most of us — that we shouldn’t see ourselves as Americans of Indian heritage, it doesn’t sound like principle. It sounds like a shallow reading of how every wave of immigrants actually lived this country.
An Irish American who wants to lecture others on belonging should start by reading his own group’s history more carefully. Identity here was never as clean or as instant as people pretend.
In 1967, Harvard psychologist Richard Alpert, later Ram Dass, gave Neem Karoli Baba 900 micrograms of LSD. Nothing happened.
Skeptics say Baba palmed the pills. What they leave out is that Ram Dass had this same doubt himself. It happened so fast that he never actually saw the pills go into Baba's mouth. He carried that doubt silently for years.
About 3 years later he was back in India. Without being asked, Baba brought it up himself: did you give me medicine last time, and did I take it?
Ram Dass had never spoken his doubt aloud.
The next morning Baba asked for more.
He swallowed 4 pills of 300 micrograms each, one by one, slowly and deliberately, in front of Ram Dass.
That was 1,200 micrograms, while an elderly devotee kept time on a watch.
1 hour passed and nothing happened. Then Baba asked, "Have you got anything stronger?"
The palming theory has no answer for this second test.
Some also claim Ram Dass admitted he made the story up. That claim came from Paul Krassner in 2001, and Ram Dass denied it. The full account of both tests is on his official site.
Baba's own explanation matters more than the feat. He said these medicines were used long ago in the Kullu Valley with fasting, but yogis had lost that knowledge.
To take them with no effect, the mind must be firmly fixed on God.
The Gita describes this state in 2.70:
Apuryamanam achalapratishtham, samudram apah pravishanti yadvat.
Rivers keep pouring into the ocean, yet the ocean stays unmoved. So is the sthitaprajna.
Jai Neeb Karori Baba 🙏
ABIM pass rates are already around 86-88% all comers, no PD in internal medicine is loading up on IMGs to get to 95%. This is more of a real point in other specialties where boards are different with lower pass rates.
Courtesy interviews are worthless, they are just an interview and lead nowhere. Trust me, been there firsthand.
Yes there are programs that are considered IMG friendly, I suggest you look at where those programs are and in what fields.
You’re all mixing up all specialties and commenting. The key here is that this is IM, a speciality with a lot of spots but not a lot of American applicants. Americans just don’t want to do internal medicine for several reasons.
Show me an ortho, Derm, Ophtalmology, urology, plastics, CT, vascular program that has been giving “courtesy interviews” or people get in to with “cultural networks”.
Americans get locked out of “SOME” programs? Yeah right, none that they’d want to go to.
Sorry, but Most Troops of Indian Army are Highly Religious and practice their Religion with Pride. Faith plays an Important Role in Soldiering and our Indian Concept of Soldiering Strongly revolves around Faith and Religious Practices . There is a Practice of SIKH REGIMENT and SIKH LIGHT INFANTRY Troops they carry Guru Granth Sahib and in Places like Ladakh Gurudwara Pathar Sahib they perform Langar as well. Same with Garhwali Troops who have deep Embeded Faith Kedarnath and Badrinath. Most Regiments like Kumaon Regiment and Dogra Regiment have War Cry that is based on Worshipping Shakti and Strength like ‘Kalika Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Jwala Mata Ki Jai’ same with Rajputana Rifles that have their War Cry ‘Raja Ramchandra Ki Jai’ and Rajput Regiment have ‘Bol Bajrang Bali Ki Jai’
Just because an Incompetent Jobless DM without proper awareness and understanding of Significance of Garhwal Rifles and their Deep Embedded relationship with Kedarnath and Badrinath has raised some objections the Army Can’t change its Practices.
