Somaliland Y-PEER participated in the Validation Workshop on the Cooperative Act and Policy, organized by the Ministry of Trade and Tourism in collaboration with Triple Line Consulting. The workshop brought together key stakeholders to review and validate the draft Cooperative Act and Policy through a multi-stakeholder consultative process.
The discussions focused on strengthening the legal and policy framework for cooperatives to ensure it is inclusive, practical, and responsive to the needs of communities and businesses. Participants shared valuable recommendations on improving access to finance and investment opportunities, promoting sustainable cooperative growth, and enhancing administrative and financial management systems within cooperatives.
Somaliland Y-PEER values the importance of inclusive dialogue and stakeholder engagement in shaping policies that support entrepreneurship, economic empowerment, and sustainable community development. Today, the Minister of Education, Ismail Duale, held a constructive and forward-looking meeting with Y-PEER Somaliland, led by Executive Director Mohamed Dhamac and joined by Abdiwahaab Hussein, PM.
The discussions focused on the rollout of a new Y-PEER project in Togdheer and Maroodi Jeex, designed to advance skills development and expand economic opportunities for young women. The initiative aims to equip participants with practical, market-relevant competencies, strengthen entrepreneurship capacity, and promote pathways to sustainable employment and self-reliance.
Both parties emphasized the critical role of education and vocational training in fostering inclusive growth and empowering women to actively contribute to national development. The Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting innovative, youth-led programs that align with Somaliland’s broader education and workforce development priorities.
The meeting concluded with a shared vision to deepen institutional collaboration, enhance program impact, and create lasting opportunities for young women and communities across Somaliland.

Today, the Somaliland Y-PEER team attended a virtual pre-consultation meeting for the development of the new UNFPA Country Programme Document (2026–2030).
During the meeting, participants engaged in an in-depth discussion on the thematic areas of the upcoming country programme, particularly how they align with the priorities outlined in the Somaliland National Development Plan III (NDP III).
The discussion highlighted key areas such as sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and response, youth empowerment, and policy integration. The Y-PEER team contributed valuable youth perspectives to ensure the programme reflects the needs and aspirations of young people in Somaliland.

Today, Somaliland Y-PEER Executive Director attended commemoration of International Youth Day (August 12th), a day observed annually to highlight the vital role of youth in social and economic development. This event, organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Somaliland, focused specifically on how to create opportunities for young people, with the aim of preventing irregular migration, substance abuse, and other risks they face. Somaliland Y-PEER works to develop and raise awareness among youth, with a particular focus on health, education, skills development, economic empowerment, job creation, human rights, and civic engagement. Somaliland Y-PEER team attended the quarterly meeting of employment stakeholders, chaired by the Director-General of the Ministry of Employment, Social Affairs, and Family of the Republic of Somaliland, Mr. Abdishakur Ismail Hussein.
The meeting, held every three months, focused on reviewing the progress and achievements of the previous quarter particularly ongoing employment projects across the country, and explored strategies to strengthen collaboration between the Ministry and various organizations involved in employment initiatives.

Yesterday, Somaliland Y-PEER participated in a TVET Working Group meeting to review recent developments, exchange ideas, and plan initiatives aimed at strengthening TVET programs. The meeting brought together local and international organizations, TVET providers, and schools. Discussions focused on ongoing projects, the priorities of the TVET Department, curriculum and examinations, the quality of training centers, future plans, and opportunities to enhance collaboration among stakeholders. #TVET #Somaliland #education
The Somaliland Y-PEER team, led by the Executive Director, participated in a two-day Disability Inclusion Training held from 3rd to 4th May in Burao. The training, organized by the International Solidarity Foundation, focused on strengthening staff capacity and community engagement, particularly in project collaboration and inclusive development for people with disabilities.
