Swift Troops’ Intervention Foils Attack on School, Saves Students in Kogi
By: Zagazola Makama
The timely intervention of security troops has prevented what could have been a major attack on students writing the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in Iluke Community, Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Eyewitnesses who spoke after the incident commended the swift response of the troops, saying their prompt arrival at the scene prevented the attackers from carrying out a mass abduction of students.
The attack occurred when armed men stormed the community and started shooting where students were writing their examinations.
According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants attempted to seize the students and move them into a nearby bush before security personnel responded to distress calls from residents.
“The situation would have been much worse if the soldiers had not arrived when they did. Their intervention saved the students and prevented what could have been a major tragedy,” one resident said.
Another eyewitness described the response of the troops as timely and professional, noting that the security operatives engaged the attackers and forced them to abandon their mission.
The residents said the arrival of the troops compelled the attackers to retreat from the area.
All the students were reportedly safe and unharmed and safely reunited with their families following the operation.
Community members also praised local security volunteers and other security agencies that supported the operation.
The incident, however, left the community in mourning following the death of three residents during the attack.
Security sources said one of the attackers was neutralised during the exchange of fire, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds.
A security operation is ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and prevent further attacks in the area.
Residents of Iluke Community expressed gratitude to the troops for their courage and sacrifice, describing the intervention as a decisive action that prevented a larger humanitarian crisis.
They urged security agencies to sustain the ongoing operations and strengthen security presence in vulnerable communities across the area.
The Kogi State Government has also commended the troops and other security personnel involved in the operation, assuring residents of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
The Nigeria Police Schools Protection Squad (SPS) Call Centre operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to receive emergency calls and reports, coordinate rapid response operations, and facilitate timely intervention in school-related security incidents across the country.

OGUN POLICE FOIL PLANNED CONSPIRACY TO KIDNAP CHINESE NATIONAL, ARREST TWO CO-CONSPIRATORS OVER ₦50 MILLION RANSOM PLOT, ON THE TRAIL OF ONE FLEEING ACCOMPLICE
Operatives of the Obalende Division of the Ogun State Police Command have successfully foiled a well-coordinated conspiracy to kidnap a Chinese national and arrested two principal suspects, Chinedu Onwuemena ‘M’, aged 41 years, and Jimoh Ojo ‘M’, aged 37 years, in connection with a planned ₦50,000,000 ransom demand.
The suspects were arrested on June 9, 2026, at about 5:30 p.m., following credible and actionable intelligence received by the Divisional Police Officer indicating an imminent kidnapping plot along the Ijebu-Ode/Odogbolu Expressway corridor.
Acting on the intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer immediately mobilised operatives of the Division, including the Surveillance Team, to the identified axis, where the suspects were promptly intercepted and arrested, thereby thwarting the execution of the planned crime.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects had jointly conspired to abduct a Chinese national and extort a ransom of ₦50,000,000. Further findings showed that Chinedu Onwuemena, who worked within the company environment as an interpreter and driver, allegedly exploited his position to facilitate the criminal plan.
Investigations further established that the arrested suspects did not act alone but in concert with another accomplice who is currently at large. Efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing suspect, while discrete investigations continue to unravel the full extent of the criminal network behind the conspiracy.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for comprehensive and discreet investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, commends the professionalism, vigilance, and swift response of the operatives of Obalende Division, whose proactive action prevented what could have resulted in a serious kidnapping incident. The CP also acknowledges the value of timely intelligence, which once again underscores the importance of community partnership in crime prevention and security management.
He reassures residents and the business community that the Ogun State Police Command remains firmly committed to intelligence-led policing, proactive crime prevention, and the relentless pursuit of criminal elements threatening public peace and safety.
Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and continue to support the Police by promptly reporting suspicious movements or activities.

Illegal firearms do not circulate in isolation; they are facilitated by criminal networks engaged in their acquisition, movement, and unlawful distribution. Through intelligence-led operations, operatives of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigeria Police Force continue to identify, disrupt, and dismantle these networks, preventing illicit weapons from reaching criminal elements and threatening public safety.
TROOPS OF OPERATION ENDURING PEACE FOIL MULTIPLE KIDNAPPING ATTEMPTS, RESCUE VICTIMS IN PLATEAU AND KADUNA STATES
In a series of decisive operations conducted over the last 48 hours, troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have successfully foiled multiple kidnapping attempts, rescued several victims, and launched aggressive manhunts for fleeing criminal elements across Plateau and Kaduna States. These swift interventions underscores the unwavering commitment of the military to maintaining security and guaranteeing the safety of commuters and residents within Operation ENDURING PEACE Joint Operations Area.
At Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, troops of Sector 6 deployed in Sopp District responded to reports of suspected kidnappers who blocked the highway along the Hawan Kibo–Rafin Sayin axis at approximately 12:30am of 5 June 2026. Upon arrival at the scene, the tactical team discovered an ash-coloured Honda vehicle with registration number APP-93CF abandoned in the middle of the road. Troops immediately launched a thorough search and rescue operation in the surrounding bushes. This rapid response led to the successful rescue of 6 kidnapped passengers. The rescued individuals revealed that they had boarded the commercial vehicle from Lafiya, Nasarawa State, and were bound for Jos. While these victims are safe, the driver of the vehicle remains missing, and troops are maintaining an active search to locate and rescue him.
Simultaneously, troops of Sector 5 operating in Bokkos, also recorded another victory against criminality in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State. Responding to an urgent distress call from Faggem Village on June 5, 2026, troops swiftly mobilised and foiled an ongoing abduction attempt, as the operational pressure forced the criminals to abandon their targets and fled into nearby forest. The chase led troops to successfully rescue a Pastor and his wife from the clutches of the kidnappers. The couple, who sustained injuries during the initial assault by the criminals, were promptly evacuated by the troops to Bokkos medical clinic for treatment, while also initiated a manhunt to track down the fleeing suspects.
In a related development, troops of Sector 7, deployed at the Ungwan Gora in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, at the early hours of Saturday 6 June 2026,
responded to reports of suspected terrorists blocking the highway between Rafi Tagwai and Angwan Dariya. Upon arrival, troops discovered that the terrorists had kidnapped some passengers traveling in a commercial vehicle. Troops recovered 8 empty cases of 7.62mm special ammunition at the scene and immediately plunged into the adjoining forest on a rescue mission. The pursuit yielded immediate results as troops rescued 2 injured passengers while efforts are currently ongoing to rescue other kidnapped occupants of the vehicle. The rescued passengers were swiftly evacuated to a nearby hospital in Fadan Karshi District for medical attention.
Operation ENDURING PEACE reassures the general public that it will not relent in its ongoing deliberate efforts and decisive operations to rid the highways and communities of criminal elements. Citizens are urged to remain vigilant and continuously provide timely and actionable intelligence on criminal elements activities to security agencies.

OPERATION HADIN KAI EXECUTES UNPRECEDENTED INTELLIGENCE-LED RESCUE OPERATION, FREES 360 ABDUCTEES FROM JAS STRONGHOLD IN THE MANDARA MOUNTAINS
In one of the most significant hostage rescue operations conducted in the North East Theatre in recent times, troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), comprising Special Forces and troops of Sector 1, have successfully rescued 360 abductees from a heavily fortified Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) enclave deep within the Mandara Mountains area of southern Borno State. The operation, which was the culmination of weeks of painstaking intelligence preparation, covert reconnaissance, and operational planning, resulted in the safe recovery of men, women, and children who had been held in captivity under harsh conditions after being abducted from several communities, particularly within the Ngoshe axis. The successful rescue underscores the growing operational reach, intelligence dominance, and tactical superiority of OPHK in denying terrorists freedom of action and protecting vulnerable populations across the theatre.
The operation was initiated following the receipt of credible and corroborated intelligence from multiple sources indicating the precise location of the hostages and the existence of an elaborate insurgent support network sustaining the enclave. OPHK intelligence elements subsequently launched an extensive target development process involving the integration of Human Intelligence (HUMINT), Signals Intelligence (SIGINT), and persistent Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) operations conducted through unmanned aerial systems and long-range reconnaissance patrols. Through sustained intelligence collection and analysis, commanders developed a comprehensive understanding of the terrain, insurgent disposition, defensive arrangements, movement patterns, and the condition of the abductees. This intelligence-driven approach enabled the force to accurately map the objective area, identify vulnerabilities within the terrorist network, and significantly reduce risks to the hostages during the rescue mission.
A decisive breakthrough was achieved through the successful penetration of the terrorist network by carefully cultivated intelligence assets operating under the supervision of OPHK military intelligence personnel. These assets provided timely and actionable intelligence regarding the exact locations of the abductees, the disposition of insurgent commanders, internal security measures, and planned relocation routes. Simultaneously, carefully coordinated information and psychological operations created uncertainty and mistrust within the insurgent ranks, degrading their cohesion and disrupting command and control arrangements. The resulting intelligence advantage provided OPHK with unprecedented situational awareness and enabled commanders to shape the operational environment well before the commencement of the assault phase.

Acting on confirmed intelligence, OPHK Special Forces and troops of Sector 1 launched a meticulously coordinated multi-axis operation designed to isolate the objective area, dominate key terrain, and prevent insurgent reinforcement or withdrawal. Supported by real-time ISR feeds, assault forces infiltrated the objective area under the cover of darkness while blocking forces established positions along likely escape routes. The operation achieved complete tactical surprise, overwhelming the terrorists before an organised response could be mounted. Faced with the speed, precision, and overwhelming combat power of the advancing troops, several insurgents abandoned their positions and fled into surrounding mountainous terrain, while others surrendered. The hostages were swiftly secured, medically screened, and evacuated from the objective area. Regrettably, two infants succumbed to exhaustion occasioned by the extremely challenging mountainous terrain and the hardships endured during their prolonged captivity
