My baby was born at 35 weeks…I called my novice mistress at the Dominican Sisters to beg for prayers from the whole convent for his lungs as I drove to the hospital for an emergency c-section. The doctors prepared my husband and I for the crash cart to the NICU, and told us we would likely not hear him crying because lungs at 35 weeks aren’t always functioning well. His first act was to let out a wail—no doubt in my mind as a result of the sisters’ prayers. I cannot imagine applauding his death on the operating table.

I am almost in tears now thinking of these babies and my own…

We must recover a vision of reality in this society. No one can be so hardened to what a 35 week old baby is that they would cheer his or her death at this stage. Ghoulish unreality.
