Jorge Posada: The Yankees Ran a Military-Style Operation in the Minor Leagues
We were brainwashed from the minor leagues. They told us exactly how things were supposed to be. If you didn’t follow the rules, they’d straight up say you’re not part of this organization.
How you wore your uniform mattered. You could only wear one chain, and it had to be small. No facial hair allowed, the hair couldn’t even touch the uniform. The hat had to sit perfectly straight, and the pinstripes on your jersey had to line up exactly with the pinstripes on your pants. You could only show four inches of blue sock and one inch of white at the bottom. That was the standard throughout the entire minor league system.
Mr. Steinbrenner implemented it from top to bottom. If your uniform wasn’t right, they’d remind you immediately, ‘Show four inches of blue sock and one inch of white.’ Cleats had to be all black with a black belt. If you had even a little bit of hair, like I do now, they’d tell you straight up, go shave!

STARKVILLE - Jeff Brantley enjoyed one of the most successful careers in Southeastern Conference history.
On Thursday, it was announced that the Mississippi State legend will be enshrined alongside 20 other standouts in the 2026 College Baseball Hall of Fame class. Brantley pitched for the Diamond Dawgs from 1982-85 and owns the most career wins in SEC history with 45.
Brantley is part of the 19th induction class which also includes Barry Bonds (Arizona State), Buster Posey (Florida State), Marquis Grissom (Florida A&M), David McCarty (Stanford), Dave Clark (Jackson State) and Huston Street (Texas). A ceremony will be held on Feb. 11, 2027, at the College Baseball Hall of Fame in Overland Park, Kansas.
Brantley is the fourth Diamond Dawg to be elected into the College Baseball Hall of Fame joining teammates Will Clark and Rafael Palmeiro and his head coach Ron Polk. He is also a member of the Mississippi State Hall of Fame (2003), Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame (2011) and Alabama Sports Hall of Fame (2026).
Brantley's 18 victories as the ace of MSU's famed 1985 squad are the most in a single season in conference history and earned him consensus first team All-America honors that year. The right-hander from Florence, Alabama was twice tabbed first team All-SEC and was an inaugural member of the Ron Polk Ring of Honor.
Brantley was drafted in the sixth round by San Francisco in 1985 and played 14 seasons of Major League Baseball for the San Francisco Giants, Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies and Texas Rangers. He pitched in the 1989 World Series and was selected as an All-Star the following season.
In 1996, Brantley led National League with 44 saves and won the Rolaids Relief Man Award that year with Cincinnati. After his final season in 2001, he spent four years as a broadcaster for ESPN and on Baseball Tonight and has served as the color analyst on the Reds radio broadcast since 2006.

1st round pick Austin Hendrick. The 24-year old doubled, collected two hits and threw out a runner from left field.
He's batting .333 with a .906 OPS in five games since being called up for his Triple-A debut.
It's been a six year grind, with a lot of struggles for Hendrick. Really cool to see him finding some success.
Throwback Thurs- On April 23, 1992 Coach Lou Brunswick won his 700th career Baseball ⚾️ game @ Coldwater High School. The Cavaliers defeated St. Mary’s that day 12-9. The Cavs went on to win the D3 State Championship & completing the season with an unblemished 32-0 record. ⚾️👍❤️
Cincinnati Reds 3rd baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes is 3 for 51 this season. The last time a Reds 3rd baseman was hitting that badly Pete Rose became a third baseman and George Foster became the leftfielder.
Parkway will be in search of a new boys basketball coach as Doug Hughes announces he has stepped down today.

Ottoville boys basketball coach Keith Utendorf has informed the team and the school he is stepping down from the position he has held since 2019.
"I also want to continue to devote my time and energy to my role as the elementary principal, supporting our staff," said Utendorf.
@crescentsports This a stunner. How many other sites do this these days? Is this an OHSAA or BGSU fee? Why would you apply this fee? I would think the benefit of media attending would overshadow any fee.
I waited a while and considered how big a stink to make about this but BGSU is a joke for this. It’s vaguely worded regarding who has to pay. “Due to demand” is also laughable considering both well attended and covered D7 semis on Tuesday had plenty of space on press row
This is old news, but I just looked at last month's board minutes from the OHSAA..
Minster has been approved to move from the NWDAB to the SWDAB beginning with the 2026-2027 school year.
His voice set the tone with great class! You knew you were in New Knoxville when you heard him speak. Congratulations on your contribution to your community and school!
We retired the famous quote “Welcome to the Little City in Ranger Gymnasium”! Gary Schrolucke spent 49 years behind the mic. He will be dearly missed. Thank you Gary for everything you have given to NK athletics!
Over his first two full seasons of MLB (2024-25), Elly has seen the 8th-highest total of true balls called strikes against him.
Geno also in the Top 20 over that time.
Those two will likely be helping each other by simply being in the lineup together each day.
