@Afrancooly@KatryaLy#UCR50 I agree that the experiments have no affect on defeating disparities but I also believe that it is much harder for minorities to get involved in these sports because it is predominantly white students. @KatryaLy
#UCR50 Something that I found insightful was on Table 5 where we see that most of the country club sports like cross country, water polo, volleyball, etc are predominantly played by white students @KatryaLy
@mguzm083@TA_ED50#ucr50 I would not agree with these limitations due to the fact that they could create a negative attitude in players that see other people make money off of them. @KatryaLy
#UCR50 The NCAA did not let their players make money off of their NIL due to sponsorships seeing that as competition. The NCAA doesn’t care about the students only their pockets
@KatryaLy
@emilyVM723@abhornUCRedu I think that unfortunately it just boils down men sports being more popular, it has gotten better in some places. I think earlier in the year, Nebraska broke an attendance record for women’s volleyball. #ucr50@KatryaLy
#UCR50 One of the most problematic things that I read was that many schools would often just dissolve or eliminate men’s sports rather than try to add women’s sports @KatryaLy
#UCR50 Something that I found thought provoking was that white athletes in team sports were more likely to be positive towards minorities than the athletes in individual sports @KatryaLy
#UCR50 Something that I thought was interesting was how many athletes often struggle with the climate of the school, if you have a difficult major then it is less likely that professors will want to work with you @KatryaLy
#UCR50 Something interesting that I found in todays reading was that many of these athletes often have tight schedules that limit them from having a social life. It also limits time for tutoring and office hours @KatryaLy
#ucr50 I thought it was crazy that in 2013 you had to make a donation in the athletic department in order to buy season tickets. From chapter 9
@KatryaLy
#ucr50 In the first chapter I read about how the NCAA has been characterized as a “cartel and monopoly that is hypocritical in its conduct of sports”. I see this as problematic as it is the highest tier of college athletes as there is no choice. @KatryaLy
