Fahad Saud Alshalan is a distant relative of Saudi royal family, one of 7,000+ princes descended from King Abdulaziz (born 1875, had 20+ wives). Fahad's link is weak, through the maternal line, placing him outside ruling Al Saud dynasty. He holds no official Saudi gov role.

That's why @KSAembassyMV didn't retweet it. He carries no weight in official/political circles at all. I've detailed the family connection at the very end of this tweet for those of you who're interested.

This is the 1st time this symbolic "prince" has ever met a head of state, which happened to be @MMuizzu. Majority people in Saudi gov wouldn't even know this guy cause there are thousands of princes there. He’s been roaming around the West, posing as an angel investor, helping money launderers.

His first cousin Nayef bin Fawwaz Al Shalan was implicated in smuggling 2 tonnes of cocaine from Venezuela to France using his private Boeing 727 aircraft, used his diplomatic status to avoid customs inspections. In 2007 a French court sentenced him to 10 years in prison and imposed a €7 million fine. US indicted him for distributing cocaine, but no extradition took place due to the absence of an extradition treaty with Saudi Arabia.

This isn’t the 1st time Maldives has been taken in by someone using a royal connection to dodge accountability. Remember Island Expert Pvt Ltd, the original contractor for Polco and Sifco flat projects? One of their shareholders was HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, a member of the actual Saudi royal family. Cause of that connection, Maldivian gov was powerless to enforce the completion of the project, which ultimately had to be handed over to HDC costing Maldivian taxpayers millions of dollars. We’re now seeing the same playbook again, only this time it’s even less credible.

This guy isn't here for any genuine investment. Any so called prince arriving under these pretences is to scam the country and leave, while we remain unable to respond legally/diplomatically. Saudi Arabia is currently focused on massive infrastructure projects of its own and it’s naive to believe that any Arab nation would pour billions into a small economy like ours.

It’s embarrassing that someone with no official role in Saudi gov can come to Maldives and tell President they’ll be offering support and strengthening ties between Maldives and Saudi Arabia. Is Muizzu really planning to entertain every one of the 7,000 largely irrelevant princes with his entire cabinet like this?

A week ago they were in Cambodia, scamming Cambodian gov. The guy with the beard (Salem Mubarak Salem Al Hadhyan) was playing both CEO and investor role in Cambodia, in a suit.

Today he was there wearing a Jubbah. He surfaced on the internet just a week ago.

This group of con artists are specialised in running elaborate scams. By next year, they'll likely show up with new faces, new names and a fresh set of people fronting the operation. But the core operators are the same. They deliberately target vulnerable nations, exploiting weak oversight and the lure of foreign investment. The land/lagoon @MMuizzu gives them will be handed over to the same company (Deem Almaseah for Trading Co Ltd) they showcased in Cambodia. That way, they can present a fake investment portfolio, claiming they’re involved in large scale construction projects abroad. Maldives gov will pressured to co fund part of the construction. And then just like clockwork they’ll drag the project out, delay it repeatedly and eventually it will become clear that the whole thing was never real to begin with.

His relationship explained in detail:
King Abdulaziz (born 150 years ago in 1875) had 20+ wives. Prince Fahd Al Shalaan (out of 7000+ princes) is the great grandson of King Abdulaziz through maternal line. His father Saud Al Shalaan is the grandson of one of King Abdulaziz’s daughters, making him King Abdulaziz’s maternal grandson. So Prince Saud is a nephew, by blood, to all of King Abdulaziz’s sons, inc the current monarch, King Salman. This means Prince Fahd is part of the extended royal family by maternal lineage but not from ruling line of Al Saud.

They have so many prices in Saudi Arabia cause King Abdulaziz (Ibn Saud) had around 45 sons and many daughters from over 20 wives. Each of his sons went on to have many children. They then had large families of their own. The title of “Prince” or "Amir" is passed down the male line (meaning sons, grandsons and even great grandsons of a prince), through male lineage. The House of Saud is estimated to include between 15,000 and 25,000 members, with 5,000 to 7,000 titled “Prince”. The rest are untitled royals (daughters or those descended through maternal lines).
