Made a huge mistake by ordering from blinkit today
First they delivered the wrong parcel, then the customer care said the item you ordered isn’t in stock, then the delivery person comes and exchanges the parcel with the right item, now the delivery agent wants me to refund him.
Random fact: Lincoln's first VP wasn't Andrew Johnson. It was a guy named Hannibal Hamlin from Maine. Hardcore abolitionist, the real kind. So consistently anti-slavery that Southern papers used to spread rumors he was secretly part Black because they couldn't process it.
Lincoln dropped him in 1864 to balance the ticket with a Southern Democrat. That was Andrew Johnson. Six weeks after the inauguration, Lincoln got shot. Johnson became president and proceeded to gut Reconstruction.
If Hamlin had stayed on, the next century of American race relations probably looks completely different.
Anyway. He died in 1891 playing cards at a club in Bangor, Maine. Mostly forgotten.
The shortest war in history lasted 38 minutes.
On August 27, 1896, Britain bombarded the Sultan's palace in Zanzibar after a succession dispute. The Sultan surrendered before 9:45am.
~500 Zanzibari soldiers killed. British: one sailor wounded.
By lunchtime, the war was over.
Lesotho is a country that exists entirely inside another country.
In the 1820s, the Basotho fled into these mountains to escape Boer settlers and Zulu warriors. In 1868 they asked Britain for protection and got carved out as a separate territory.
A whole country, inside a country
Why does almost every major American city older than 1850 sit on a river bend or confluence?
St. Louis. Pittsburgh. Cincinnati. Memphis. New Orleans. None of them are randomly placed.
A thread on geography vs. cities 🧵
Why does Namibia have a 280-mile finger of land jutting east into Africa?
In 1890, Germany traded the island of Zanzibar to Britain to get it — hoping to reach the Zambezi River.
100 miles downstream of the strip: Victoria Falls.
One of the worst trades in colonial history.
First it was Rashford’s brother, then Garnacho’s and now Mainoo’s.
But look at the bigger picture:
— Rashford’s brother doesn’t say shit when he gets benched at Barca now.
— Garnacho’s brother doesn’t say shit when he gets benched at Chelsea.
— And I guarantee you, Mainoo’s brother would never do this at another club.
They only do this shit at United because of the rotten environment and culture where players and their families feel entitled.
That’s what you get when you side with players over managers and refuse to let managers build a proper culture. A culture where players understand their place.
For your information, this is exactly why INEOS are backing Amorim. And don’t be surprised if they sell any player who thinks he’s bigger than the manager or the club, no matter how talented they are.
AND YES, IT SHOULD BE LIKE THAT.
