@missradders I use my holidays to catch up with everything I don’t have time to do in term time - clean properly, jobs around the house, catch up with friends, sleep, read, binge watch tv series, sleep, tiny bit of school work (otherwise I return on the back foot), recharge a bit…
@mathninja3 What about all of the work they do on mini white boards? All of it rubbed out, none of it kept as a record…but highly valued by students and by me as I very quickly and easily assess the understanding of concepts and application of skills throughout the lesson.
@tombennett71 I suspect that the real problem lies with inconsistency in terms of teaching staff, not students. This is a rural town with generally good behaviour. I know, I worked at this school for 7 1/2 years. These ‘guidelines’ are as much to hold teachers to account as they are kids.
@RogersHistory 2/2 but we all know that there will be schools that, for a multitude of reasons, won’t have such tight processes in place. Where grades will be inflated and where certain groups of students will be less successful under the CAG system. And they’ll not necessarily be scrutinised
@RogersHistory The problem is, with no clear guidance ensuring that each school is following the same processes, there will be variation from school to school. Those schools with integrity and a commitment to doing this properly will of course put systems in place to counter bias 1/2
@tes 2/2 for the safety of our staff, for the message that would give the other students, for the fact that the student in question needed to understand the consequences of their actions - exclusion was the only option
@tes As someone who was assaulted in school last November, in front of a 100 strong audience of year 10 students, I hated the fact that permanent exclusion would potentially seriously limit the life chances of the student but we could not allow them back into school 1/2
No one wants to give negative feedback to a colleague, but sometimes a clear message needs to be delivered. In teaching, rarely does stepping up to a new role and responsibility give you the training you need. This resource may help...
