Absent state enforcement of abortion of babies who have Down’s syndrome, it is not eugenics. Which is a state wide philosophy of removing defective genes from the population.
This is women exerting choice, which I support 100%.
No one is mandating these abortions and forcing women to have kids they don’t want is ethically far worse.
The bodily right belongs to the women, not the fetus or the state.
Aborting a baby because it has Down syndrome is crazy Im not sorry. Down syndrome is not terminal. It is not hard to provide them a joyful life especially if you're middle class white. And they are easy to love. shouldnt be allowed to have any babies moving forward (1/2)
furthermore, the debate raging really betrays a lack of critical rigor: does life only begin at conception if the fetus will be disabled? because that's what i'm getting from y'all
"eugenics" and "genocide" are specific terms with meanings that are not infinitely applicable, especially when you try to stretch them to fit the actions of individuals on the scale of an individual pregnancy
If you’re not ready to have a disabled child, then you’re not ready to have a child at all.
A lot of y’all aren’t “pro choice” or “pro abortion”, you’re just pro eugenics and it shows.
Abortion is a wonderful thing, but when it becomes eugenics, it’s just bigotry and genocide.
phone-free concerts are ableist and discriminatory to the global south. phone-free classrooms are ensuring i won't hear my child's last words. phone-free anywhere means i might have to be alone with the horrors the phone has wrought on us
so much of modern political discourse revolves around the inalienable right to have The Phone available at all times. anything less is a civil rights violation
The no phones policy is honestly insane and, in my opinion, shouldn’t even be a thing. People spend hundreds, sometimes thousands, of dollars to see their favorite artist live, and a huge part of that experience is being able to take photos and videos to remember it. Fans pay all that money for a ticket, yet can’t record some of their favorite moments. I understand some people may disagree, but this is just my opinion.
This is so sad and awful. We CAN'T stand silently by.
Research shows 99% of people with Down syndrome are happy with their lives, and their families love them.
Families deserve truthful information & support. People with Down syndrome deserve to live. They should never be targets for discrimination, inside the womb or out. Period.
I'm really not enjoying the way people are talking about disabled children and I'm going to remind you that your perfectly healthy kid could become disabled at any moment, literally overnight, and no amount of NIPTs or screenings could've predicted it, and then what will you do?
