Today I offer a reminder of the word ‘forswunk’ (13th century): exhausted from too much work. To be ‘foreswunk’ (my own version) is to be exhausted before you even begin.

On this day in 1770, poet William Wordsworth was born.
His childhood home in Cumbria gives us a glimpse of the 18th-century world he grew up in, but every host of golden daffodils is a reminder of his romantic way with words.
