There's an entire missing child in my house who could still be here if we were collectively better at preventing the spread of infectious disease. I'm diligently cautious in this conversation and will continue to try to protect others.
Not today, Randy Hillier. Bye now.

My friend Gidon Lev is a Holocaust survivor. His father died in Auschwitz, 26 members of his family were murdered. He lives in Israel and this week is reliving a great deal of trauma. His has a son and a grandson serving in the IDF who is very worried for.
But he refuses to hate and told me all he wants is peace - both in Israel and in Gaza. He is one of the most inspirational people I know.
When asked this week if he was losing hope he replied: ‘I do not have the luxury of losing hope. If we lose hope, we cease to live.”
Be more Gidon.

What comes to mind when you think of Canada? 🇨🇦 HEALTHCARE.
Free. Covered. Accessible… for most.
However, as a paediatric RN, I know youth affected by Eating Disorders are slipping through the cracks. And for many, time is running out.
After more than 20 hospital admissions, Georgia and her family have exhausted the limited treatment programs in 🇨🇦 and been forced to pay $$$ for private care in the US.
Read her story below. Spread the word. Donate if you can.

At the grocery store you pick a line based on length
At the bank, the next available teller sees you
Yet patients are typically referred to a single surgeon even for routine procedures and blind to wait times.
Centralized waiting lists are an easy way smooth wait times for all.
Doctors ...especially our family physician's and pediatrician's must start seeing ACTUAL patients. A phone consultation is not a head to toe assessment. Our ER's and ICU's are jammed because people don't realize how sick they are until its much too late... do better.

It takes a special kind of person to look at last two years of lower Influenza rates and suggest we shouldn’t have employed public health measures instead of wondering why we don’t always employ these in bad flu seasons, knowing full well they prevent hospitalizations & deaths.
I USED to feel like ppl cared about hospitalized kids. Paediatric units are renovated, filled with gadgets + gizmos (of plenty), inundated donations of toys + gaming systems, and home to visits from celebrities + athletes.
What about caring about their health? Full 🛑 there.
How is it that SickKids just announced cancelation of scheduled surgeries & procedures due to overcapacity (127%) in ICU, yet, Ontarians haven't started a #GeneralStrike ? How much disruption in health services do we plan to see before we turn our anger into action? #onpoli
I 🖤 this RT (and its facetious approach to acknowledging the selfishness of going maskless). After 12 hr shifts of chaos, critical care, + coughing kids, I try to convince myself that people mustn’t be aware of the crisis + acuity of illness plaguing kids… or they would 😷 up
People in #Ontario who don’t wear a mask while indoors at a public gathering space, please complete this sentence:
COVID & the flu can be spread by aerosols & Ontario’s paediatric ICUs are now full, but I won’t wear a mask because …

As of late, each shift as a paeds RN is more and more unpredictable. The acuity of our patients is unbearable. We can no longer depend on policies to maximize patient safety (e.g. shared care assignments) because we are working in crisis mode.
Notwithstanding the heroic efforts of hospitals and HCWs, Ontario's pediatric healthcare system is in an unprecedented crisis.
Access to acute/critical care is imperiled, yet crickets from @ongov.
It's shocking that our elected leaders simply aren't showing up for our kids.
Pediatric ICU at > 127% capacity.
>50% of kids ventilated.
Surgeries cancelled.
Community partners at maximum capacity and being supported virtually as no space at Sick Kids.
