What’s happening in Gary, Indiana, is a national disgrace. The fact that FEMA and state agencies aren’t rushing support to restore power is the perfect example of the rot in this administration and its stooges.
They are destroying thousands of rare books and paper files to scan them into a system that trains Al models and create digital copies.
This is jot just scanning rare books and paper files. This is stealing intellectual property of the authors, erasing historical documents, and destroying the evidence.
By eliminating rare books and paper files and replacing them with digital copies, they can erase history and control the future. If you can dictate how people remember the past, you dictate how they act in the present.
By using digital copies, one day we will find the message “the page does not exist,” and the next day they will deny that it ever happened.
Ankle monitors. Electric shock gloves. What’s next?
We should be deeply concerned about where this is going.
Dehumanization does not begin with the worst act imaginable. It grows when we become comfortable with treating people as threats to be tracked, controlled, restrained, and subjected to pain.
Immigration status does not erase human dignity. Government power does not erase the responsibility to respect it.
We cannot build the Beloved Community while normalizing the dehumanization of our neighbors. And we should not wait to see what comes next before we say enough.

Forcing Haitian immigrants to wear ankle monitors is dehumanizing. It reduces human beings to objects of surveillance and treats vulnerable people as though they are undeserving of freedom, compassion, and dignity.
We should reject policies that humiliate, intimidate, and criminalize vulnerable communities.
No immigration policy should require us to surrender our humanity.
Human dignity must remain nonnegotiable.

guys i don’t care if USPS lost your package once or whatever. if we lose USPS it will impact so. many. people. negatively.

“Practice any art… no matter how well or badly, not to get money and fame, but to experience becoming, to find out what's inside you, to make your soul grow.”
- McKellen reciting Vonnegut
I saw a post on Reddit that said, “When you walk through a museum, you’re not just looking at art. You’re moving through centuries of people trying to explain love, grief, power, beauty, and belonging.” I don’t think I’ve ever seen a museum described so beautifully.
Emmett Till should be celebrating his 85th birthday today.
Instead, he was robbed not only of his life, but of every year, relationship, dream, and possibility that should have followed. White supremacy destroys lives, wounds generations, and depends on our willingness to look away.
Remember Emmett. Reject the hatred that killed him. Continue the work of dismantling every system that devalues Black life.

Donald Trump and RFK Jr. cut the team tracking cyclospora by more than 70%.
Now we've got a nationwide outbreak.
We should be investing in public health — not gutting it.
I agreed to be interviewed today on a podcast about AI, where I could make my views about its spiritual dangers clear. I must say, I tire of having to call out the bad-faith actors who pretend to want to discuss AI's impact but really are just there to draw you into a dialogue that shills for tech interests. But I will always call it out.
At one point the host read a "poem" to me, suspecting I'd be generous and find something to applaud in it, after which he could "get me" by revealing it was composed by AI.
But I told him the truth. It was an awful piece of writing. I then proceeded to tell him what poems—what art, what being human—can really do to change our lives, by engaging us in the miraculous task of becoming.
When you keep hearing people insist that AI will do what humans can, and that it can do it more cheaply, there are times, friends, when you have to tell people that if all they can think about is product instead of process, they have lost their way.
Louis Armstrong was once asked what jazz is. "If you have to ask," he answered, "you'll never know." If you have to ask why the process of human creation is important (and spiritually fulfilling) in a world of computerized creation, you'll never know, at least until you open your heart to the possibility that we're here on this earth to do something more than make money and die.
Trump is withholding $1 billion in Medicaid funds from California and Minnesota.
The same man who made $2 billion off the presidency and passed $1 trillion in tax cuts for the 1% is now taking away health care from thousands of poor children.
You can’t make this up.
A young dad with a toddler in the backseat.
A father of 3 on his way to work.
A mom who had dropped her 6-year-old son off at school.
A VA nurse helping a woman pushed down by masked federal agents.
Enough is enough. Abolish ICE.
Joan Sebastian Guerrero is the latest name on a devastating list of lives lost in connection with immigration enforcement operations.
I am holding his family, and every family represented here, in my heart. Each name is a life, a loved one, and a reminder of the human cost of policies and practices that disregard dignity.
It is my prayer that no other name is added to this list, and that truth, accountability, and humanity guide the way forward.

An ICE agent shot and killed a 26-year-old man in Maine today.
This comes just days after ICE shot and killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Texas.
Trump’s domestic army must be stopped.
The United States has the highest rate of childhood poverty of almost any major country.
How do Trump and Republicans respond? By wiping out food assistance for millions of hungry kids and families in America.
Cruelty should not be an American policy.
Children.
Let that sink in.
According to a new UN inquiry, Israeli authorities and security forces have deliberately targeted Palestinian children in Gaza, resulting in genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes.
No government, army, ideology, or political argument can make the killing, starvation, displacement, and traumatizing of children morally acceptable. A world that excuses the destruction of children has lost its moral center.
We must not grow numb. We must demand an end to genocide, protection for Palestinian children, unrestricted humanitarian aid, accountability for these atrocities, and every child’s right to live in dignity, safety, and peace.
