They are responsible for serious human rights violations, including human trafficking, torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment.

Every year, thousands of people accept what they believe are legitimate job offers, only to find themselves trapped in scam compounds, stripped of their freedom and forced into cyber-enabled fraud.

Human trafficking is evolving in the digital age. Criminal networks exploit deception to recruit victims and force them into criminal activities.

On the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, the EU reaffirms its commitment to fighting trafficking through stronger international cooperation, support for victims, and action against the criminal networks behind these crimes, including a proposed new EU sanctions regime targeting organised crime.

Together with @UNODC, the EU is working to expose these crimes, protect victims and hold traffickers accountable.
