I need you to know that however bad you think the end of a constitutional right to abortion is, it’s much, much worse. It’s daily terror that someone will die and it will have been on my watch.
@AlyssaRosenberg Great ideas, many of them long in operation as the central tenets of reproductive justice involve support for birthing people. Like @AllOptionsPRC, which “outcompetes” CPCs and provides full spectrum support (like diapers!)
No “safe haven” can stop a perineal laceration or a hemorrhage. No adoption prevents eclamptic seizures or pulmonary embolism. People who give birth bear the scars of it for life. Some with pride, others with embarrassment or pain. Dignify birth by ensuring that it is by choice.
It’s the end of Mothers Day, a day with its roots in anti-war activism, which has been co-opted into a treacly commercial holiday to pay lip service to mothers. It is complicated for a variety of reasons, not least of which that we don’t actually care about mothers.
This is just the body stuff. The minimum things it takes to just keep being pregnant, even if you don’t want to mother anyone.
How can we dare pretend that the sexes are equal if that sacrifice isn’t completely voluntary?
