In a clash of Kansas heavyweights, #1 Manhattan (6A, 3-0) edged out #2 Hays (5A, 2-1) in a defensive slugfest tonight, earning a hard-fought 10-8 homecoming victory. After a scoreless first half, Manhattan broke through when homecoming king JJ Dunnigan broke through with an 87-yard punt return touchdown to put the Indians on the board. In the fourth quarter, Prescott Blarderson added a clutch 27-yard field goal to extend the lead to 10-0. Hays battled back late behind a 32-yard touchdown run from Holden Lind, but Manhattan’s defense held strong to preserve the win and keep their spot atop 6A. #sportsinkansas
