In my years of practice, I have never prescribed chloramphenicol, not even for exotic cases of osteomyelitis

It's virtually never ever used except in eye drops

So I never cared to look it up before today, and turns out *can* be used orally/IV in very rare cases - but there's a reason it is almost never used:

It's rare but the risk is real, which is why it's banned from use in food animals in most countries
