@PhilRugby When your best talent leaves the market that remains is as you put your grade b or grade c they may very well be on less money. And by the way the WRU ran the academy for about 10 years.
@PhilRugby I clearly have it is entirely possible our best players get offered better contracts leaving the exact players you name above remaining. Wainwright great player, could stay and play for a much strengthened Dragons under current proposals but is moving to England.
I thought the whole point of reducing was to keep your best players playing in Wales which is at risk if you deflate player wages here. Eng and France could offer better contracts leaving the remaining Welsh teams weaker if they take our internationals.
@PhilRugby Again I haven’t and you have actually agreed with me, market forces dictate, meaning our best players could be offered better contracts and I have said only time will tell.
@PhilRugby I’m stating it is possible, our rarer region contract offers a deflated wage and England and France offer more for same player, can’t blame them for choosing higher offer. A bit like Finn Russel, Blair Kinghorn, or Capuozzo. We won’t actually know until it happens.
@PhilRugby Not disagreeing with what we can afford. Decisions taken for short‑term financial relief that create long‑term instability are more damaging. What are Llanelli’s grounds for litigation?
@PhilRugby Getting to 3 quickly isn’t a sign of good governance or leadership either. A rushed consolidation could damage participation, alienate communities, and weaken the very pathways the licence is supposed to protect.
@WalesRugby Maybe needed, but WRU stated licences should be based on population, schools, uni links, number of clubs in area etc. Now Y11 try to sell they accept, going back on all their previous criteria for an easy out, so not based on rugby’s best interests. That is not good leadership.
