NYT: The president had wavered for weeks over the Saudi appeals for help in fighting the Houthis. But things came to a head on Thursday: Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the kingdom’s de facto leader and a major ally in the Iran war, called the president to implore him, again, to step in to help blunt the rapidly advancing group, administration officials said.

Mr. Trump had met with advisers just the day before and told them he did not favor strikes. But after speaking with the Saudi crown prince, he reversed himself and told the Pentagon to prepare for airstrikes against the Houthis.

But by midday Sunday, the president appeared to have reversed himself again. There would be no U.S. airstrikes against the Houthis — at least not for the time being, according to administration officials.

The White House press office declined to discuss Mr. Trump’s deliberations for the record. A senior administration official would say only that “the U.S. has a defense agreement with Saudi Arabia and we will always defend our allies.”

That's a +258% surge in shipping costs in just 2 months.

Her name was Sana’a Youssef Mehaidli—سناء يوسف محيدلي—remembered as “the Bride of the South.”

Born in 1968 in Anqoun, near Sidon, Sana’a joined the Syrian Social Nationalist Party and the broader Lebanese National Resistance Front during Israel’s occupation of southern Lebanon.

On April 9, 1985, at only sixteen years old, she drove an explosives-laden Peugeot into an Israeli military convoy at the Bater–Jezzine crossing. Her target was an occupying military force—not civilians. The operation killed two Israeli soldiers and wounded others, making her one of the earliest known women to carry out such an attack.

Before leaving, Sana’a recorded a final message explaining that she had chosen this path after witnessing the suffering of her people under occupation. She asked to be remembered as “the Bride of the South.”

Israel withheld her remains for more than twenty-three years before returning them to Lebanon in 2008.

Sana’a’s story belongs to a Lebanon many now pretend never existed: a resistance composed of nationalists, communists, Muslims and Christians who disagreed on nearly everything except the right of their land to be free.

The resistance did not begin with one party, one sect or one flag. It began wherever occupation encountered a people who refused to kneel.
