After spending a great weekend on the road, I have one thing to share:

I want players who COMPETE at every point of the game, including warmups. I will not recruit players that are “taking plays off” or watching the ball hit the floor without laying out for it.

We want DOGS!

The track is available daily.
The cages are available daily.
Long tossing is available daily.
Defensive work is available daily.
Bullpens are available daily.
Caloric intake is available daily.

The availability of improvement is available daily.
The opportunity to outwork the competition is available daily.

The ability to understand how to earn and take advantage of opportunities is so elusive to many.

As an AD, I often hear people say, “Winning is not important.”

I disagree.

Winning is important, but the journey required to become a winner is even more important.

The goal is to maximize an athlete’s talent through adversity while teaching resilience, discipline, and accountability.

Losing should hurt, because standards matter. But every loss should become one step closer to winning.

If we tell athletes winning is not important, we are not preparing them for life.

The pursuit of winning teaches lessons that last far beyond the scoreboard.
