WA to end imprisonment for unpaid fines thanks to the tireless work of fierce advocates like the family of the late Ms Dhu, the Aboriginal Legal Service, and @DebKilroy and Sisters Inside.
The criminalisation of poverty must end.
The Aboriginal community has been advocating for years to end laws that imprison impoverished people for fine default Great to meet WA AG staff to hear new legislation will be tabled in Parliament by 27/6 to end draconian laws Congrats to the c’ty #freeher https://t.co/kgIwHKyK1A
Yesterday we mourned 411 Aboriginal deaths in custody since #RCIADIC. This is no time to mainstream legal services funding. The next Federal Government MUST prioritise self-determination of our community controlled ATSILS.
