"If schools can transition from teachers as “holders of knowledge” to “facilitators of learning” and can provide spaces for students to chase their curiosity and passion instead of extinguishing it, students can become geniuses." https://t.co/vaFO4cGu85 #edreimagined#stuvoice
Potlucks and school plays are fun ways to learn about the first Thanksgiving. But the holiday isn't a celebration for everyone and navigating that nuance can be difficult for some educators. https://t.co/wpNAGcudYB
Haven’t seen @dintersmith’s award winning film, Most Likely To Succeed yet? You can watch it for free this Thanksgiving weekend: https://t.co/hZF4zsSSEd, Password: 1893committeeof10. But don’t watch it alone. So many interesting things to discuss for all ages w/o provoking fights
School employees are required to report suspicions of child abuse to the authorities. But sometimes schools use Child Protective Services as a weapon to punish parents.

A @holochain app for kids to review & rate their schools (Glassdoor for 11-18 year olds). Kids own their reviews on local chains, app creates UI, @H_O_L_O_ shares to the world. Schools (or unschooling) that make kids happy rise to the top & become visible for the right reasons.
@DavidNeilCook@amysuzannej@SirKenRobinson@DrTonyWagner@ajjuliani@spencerideas I love the discussion on environment, experience, and outcome. Pliability and autonomy are important. Systems that approach behavior as punitive, limit self-determination, or stifle teacher innovation cannot prepare today’s learners for tomorrow’s changing world.
@JennBinis In 1892 The Committee of Ten designed the education system we use today. It had good intentions to standardize curriculum and assessment so all kids got the same thing. Whether or not it was intended, it also sorts kids.
@amysuzannej@SirKenRobinson@DrTonyWagner@ajjuliani@spencerideas That’s because we keep having a conversation about changing the HOW. As you said, lots of isolated places are changing “school” but aren’t changing the system those schools exist in. We aren’t having system level conversations about changing the WHY and WHAT. It’s a HUGE lift.
Yes. Our assembly line education system was designed to both sort kids and also to batch process large numbers of immigrants & kids from farms to teach basic literacy & numeracy for the industrial era. Think of it as the “Model T” of education. Now we need “Tesla” schools.
Powerful argument for looking more closely at qualitative measures of schooling and work. Examples: “Full employment” vs the fact that 94% of jobs created since 2005 are temp or contract. More HS grads vs. overwhelming # of CEOs saying grads lack skills. https://t.co/JWTVb2QrZA
