@daedoong_ I don't mind dealing with fandoms, tbh, even the angry ones. They can be annoying but nothing really bad so far. It is a shitty feeling seeing a fandom sad about their faves getting what seems to be a raw deal. And I just feel that now my energy is better spent elsewhere.
@daedoong_ And there's the fact that the biggest slice of the pie, digitals, are just... inaccessible. They probably have their own way of counting MV views that differs slightly from K-Pop Radars. But so much just goes on and since data isn't publicized in general there's nothing to do.
@daedoong_ 2) Ngl this is mentally exhausting. Not just because of stans (and I'm glad they were civil to me this time) I hate it for all the artists and fans involved, this system is just cruel. I feel for Daniel, but I really don't blame Elvis for asking because of the huge disconnect.
If you too want to analyze The Show's results, I have a guide on https://t.co/dHPQhKiw4m, though keep in mind that the time frame for data collection is Sat-Fri. I'll update this as soon as I have access to a computer.
@matthewclc Not sure how accurate/updated all this info is but the part on relative scoring adds up for The Show if we assume the data given to Dispatch is accurate https://t.co/gsIMp3Hh6k
I can neither confirm nor dispute this explanation (though I guess that it does tie in to my theory of giving much greater weight to downloads). If anything else, the takeaway is that 1) The Show's digital score is not as much a measure of public interest as some think it is
@matthewclc According to the Dispatch interview, four shows use Gaon data: Show Champion, The Show, Music Core and Inkigayo. But iirc the other three use data from specific charts? The Show claim they just use what's given them and Gaon is corroborating their story so there's not much to do
@fyeahpanda I don't have enough data to verify or dispute this, I'm afraid.
But I thought that money spent was supposed to be what Gaon's chart recorded (people were already saying that in previous discussions of the chart). What is the weekly chart in public actually measuring then?
Last week's Gaon Digital Chart released earlier. This is... bizarre.
AOA's score is close to the score supposedly obtained by Dispatch (it increased by ~140k) in that Dispatch article but Daniel's actually fell dramatically (from 48M to ~8.7M).

@topmadamdiva It's extremely disconcerting for sure. Touchin' did rank 4th on downloads (Come See Me was 8th) so maybe The Show used just downloads or weighted those more heavily but this is impossible to confirm. And The Show says they can't touch the digital scores so what now
Astro falling off is unsurprising, though, given that a first week Saturday was replaced with a second week. (By that extent, can't claim to know for sure.)
I don't have any explanation for this but again I have no idea how Gaon computes. I would've expected both to actually rise given that changing the time period simply adds one day to both (Touchin' is a Monday release). But again, I don't know how Gaon computes.
@bluejam6 That said, given that many people have indicated that Gaon Index measures profitability more than popularity, I wouldn't be surprised to see an actual weight scheme that favors downloads over streams. If anyone knows better than I do please feel free to weigh in
This was left as a response to my tweet, and I think it's worth commenting on. I did some quick calculations on my phone and the numbers match what I computed, and this article also confirms that Saturday-Friday is indeed the reckoning period. https://t.co/BG3FlSdnXq
@bluejam6 Maybe, but it's hard to tell. As I've said in a response to another tweet here I did see an old forum post where someone said Gaon Index is 79% streaming/20% downloads/1% BGM but those numbers have been called into question before and I'm not sure how true they still are now
@bluejam6 Those are the purported Gaon Digital Index scores. Those numbers that appear on the right side of the weekly charts.
What those really mean... who knows. Gaon put stream, download, BGM numbers into some sort of blender and make numbers out of those that are impossible to verify
