In "PRISONERS" (2013), Hugh Jackman improvised the explosive hammer scene during the interrogation of Paul Dano’s character.
Director Denis Villeneuve pushed Jackman to be completely ferocious for the take, and Jackman went further than expected, smashing the bathroom sink and wall with a hammer just inches from Dano.
The intensity of the performance left Jackman emotionally drained after filming, and he reportedly broke down in tears once Villeneuve called cut.
It’s one of the film’s most disturbing scenes, and the improvised physical destruction makes the rage feel frighteningly real.
