Freeskiing taught me more about life and entrepreneurship than any college class I ever took. 👇
It taught me that the only way to get good at something is to show up day after day and get your reps in. There are no shortcuts; you need to show up consistently.
It taught me that crashing is part of the game. You cannot progress without taking some level of risk, and sometimes that means eating s***.
That’s the price of pushing yourself.
It also taught me about progression. No one clicks into skis for the first time and starts throwing double corks or hitting crazy rail tricks.
Everyone starts the same way.
>Pizza to french fry.
>Then maybe your first 360.
>Then a backflip.
>Then a cork, etc.
There’s a natural progression.
The same way there is in business. You don’t wake up one day and suddenly know how to build something great. You earn it through reps, failing, and through coaches (shout out robert).
Skiing also taught me about community.
Some of my favorite days on the mountain were just being around other people pushing themselves, pushing each other, and having fun doing it.
Which brings me to something I think people forget… have fun and surround yourself with good people.
Life’s not that serious. Work hard. Show up. Push yourself.
But remember to smile once in a while.
You probably won’t catch me throwing double corks or crazy park tricks much anymore.
But I still like to push the envelope a little.
Here’s a clip from a great day at Alta two years ago. 🎿
Curious if anyone else has something outside of work that ended up teaching them a lot about life or business? 🤝
