#WATCH | Delhi: The Delhi High Court sought a response from the Tihar jail authorities on the allegations of custodial assault of three inmates, including a convict. The High Court has also directed the head warden, against whom there are allegations of assault, to be present on the next date of hearing.

Advocate Digant Mishra, counsel for a convict who is subjected to custodial assault, says, "On the 26th June, a very horrific incident happened in Tihar Jail number 3, where one of the head constables and the jail superintendent were involved, and they were asking for protection money of Rs 15,000 from the inmates and the convicted person, and one of them was my client as well. During the course of time, they were not able to give the protection money to the person. For that, particularly, they were brutally attacked with lathis, and the hand was broken. At the same time, when they asked for medical assistance, that was also not given to them... We waited for 15 days at Tihar Jail... but nothing was given. Today, the High Court justices Prathiba M. Singh and Vikas Mahajan have given a very strict direction that if the incident has occurred in so bad a manner, then we will be enquiring into each and everything, and everything will be coming in a sealed envelope. And it is very important to give them medical assistance. That is why today they have also given a direction that they will be present in the Deen Dayal Hospital with two other inmates who also suffered during this particular incident. And this practice has been going on for a long time in the jail authorities, but no one was answering or questioning these things..."

The court reviewed the sealed cover report and granted interim bail to the accused after noticing injuries on his body. The accused has been granted bail for 30 days. After September, the court will review the report again, examine all details, and pass a further order. The accused will have to follow the court's directions until then. Today, the head warden appeared before the court and submitted his affidavit, explaining how the incident took place. The court also raised questions regarding the sequence of events. The prosecution had stated that there was no incident or injury on the 26th, but injuries were reported on the 27th. Considering the injury details mentioned in the report, the court granted interim bail for 30 days..."
