I'm speaking here as an unsuccessful owner who learned and, at the same time, a collector:
It's a mistake for projects to treat granting mint spots as if they're doing a favor. There's a fine line between making the process of earning a mint (or even remaining in a community) engaging or discouraging.

The fact is that many people who would be capable of minting don't have the time, while a project might have its mint full of people with free time who won't have money for mint.

When I have a strong interest, and haven't yet obtained a spot, I shamelessly send a message asking... I'm not begging to pay 10 or 20 dollars, I just want to be a part of it. If the project doesn't want me or doesn't find me worthy, that's fine, but it could be that the filter is so strong that people also think the same way in reverse, hence the need to cut supplies, mints dragging on for days, etc.

This isn't a social critique, especially since I'm very much in favor of "small" players also having a chance (including because I am one of them), it's more about the arrogance I see in some projects... an arrogance that is often unintentional but stems from not yet realizing – this realization that has already sunk in for me: MINT DAYS NEED MINTERS.

By the way, congratulations @Mr_Anchovy_ and @rockateral ... I'm not a big investor, but in addition to the 4 spots I won in raffles, I bought 8 more when the paper hands decided to come out. I didn't need to make 100 posts about you to achieve this, but I insist on doing it now.

You didn't push people away from 10,000 opportunities.
