This week's #AIActionSummit in Paris saw big global powers refuse accountability while the Global Majority pushes for necessary regulations and accountability mechanisms.
Our Campaigns Director for LATAM shares his insights from our summit event https://t.co/R0zyhJN0N8
Read my new article! In the article "The AI Race: How National Mindsets Overshadowed Safety at the Paris AI Summit," I critically examine the summit's focus on the so-called "AI race" and the rise of national competition.
While discussions revolved around outpacing one another, the pressing issue of AI safety was sidelined. The piece highlights how this obsession with national rivalry has become a major obstacle to meaningful global cooperation on AI governance.
I argue that a more balanced approach is urgently needed - one that not only accelerates technological progress but also prioritizes responsible AI safety, fostering international collaboration to ensure that AI's benefits are shared equitably and its risks managed thoughtfully.

US, UK REFUSE TO SIGN GLOBAL AI PACT
China, India and most other major nations signed an AI declaration at a top summit in Paris last night – but the US refused to sign and the UK followed its lead.
The document called on AI to be used for the good of all humanity, by “ensuring AI is open, inclusive, transparent, ethical, safe, secure and trustworthy, taking into account international frameworks for all”.
It was signed by at least 60 countries, including the world's most populous two nations, plus France, Japan, Australia and others.
But the US, represented by JD Vance, refused to sign, and the UK copied its transatlantic "friend", as it has done on numerous United Nations votes.
A US spokesman said the declaration lacked clarity on "global governance" and did not address questions of "national security".
Participants said they were saddened by the decision but not surprised.
In just a week we'll be in Paris at the #AIActionSummit raising our voices to make sure AI serves democracy and human rights.
