AC 1st class has the exact system that you are proposing. Result is that my aged father gets so anxious because he only comes to know if he has been assigned a lower seat in the last few hours. He has had to cancel a trip recently because of this.

There is already a senior citizen quota which can be selected when booking the ticket which mostly works though imperfect.

Also, not being assigned seats immediately on booking will be a major problem for families. They could be assigned seats in different coaches, or far away from each other. - daughters out of sight, luggage all over the coach. Mayhem. And they will only come to know this only on the day of travel.

I support paid seat selection. That is great.

Even if not a continuous problem for many, people do have this particular anxiety experience in phases some time or the other.
Do share if the therapist suggested some reading that can elaborate on this?

@itsme_urstruly I deleted my dissertation in the 90s because of lack of space in my Windows PC after copying it to a floppy disk and a CD. Both got corrupted - had to borrow my own paper dissertation from my university library and got it scanned to a PDF some years back
