Call us whatever you want, Mr. Modi.
We are INDIA.
We will help heal Manipur and wipe the tears of every woman and child. We will bring back love and peace for all her people.
We will rebuild the idea of India in Manipur.
It is shameful that the Prime Minister is making a statement outside the House, when Parliament is in session. It is his duty to make a comprehensive statement inside the Parliament on Manipur violence.
Therefore, we are requesting the Chairman of Rajya Sabha and the Speaker of Lok Sabha that the PM should make a statement on what is the situation in Manipur.
PM’s silence and inaction has led Manipur into anarchy.
INDIA will not stay silent while the idea of India is being attacked in Manipur.
We stand with the people of Manipur. Peace is the only way forward.
Manipur burns. EU Parliament discusses India’s internal matter.
PM hasn’t said a word on either!
Meanwhile, Rafale gets him a ticket to the Bastille Day Parade.
@narendramodi@AmitShah

This entire flight price fiasco is unraveling the criminal extent to which the @MoCA_GOI neglected passenger welfare and the aviation sector. The more we dive deeper, the greater the mess we see. You have opened a Pandora’s box, @JM_Scindia ji.
1. As per the Ministry’s own affidavit in the Jet Airways insolvency case, airport slots are neither assets nor rights of the airline, but mere permissions granted on a ‘use it or lose it’ basis. In 2020, then MoS Civil Aviation @HardeepSPuri ji, in response to a Parliamentary Question, stated that Jet Airways slots were being reallocated on a temporary basis. In this case as well, if GoFirst is not using its slots, these must be allocated to other airlines on a temporary basis. Why is the govt treating the GoFirst crisis differently?
2. It is laughable that you claim that the AERA, run by a sitting IAS officer, whose every officer is appointed by the govt, and whose budget is determined by the govt, is an independent body. Is it independent in the same way that the ED, CBI and IT Dept are independent?
3. You conveniently skipped the part where it was the Modi govt itself which hiked the excise on ATF from 8% to 14%, before scaling it back to 11%. When ATF constitutes nearly half the cost of operating an aircraft, these seemingly small changes make a huge impact.
4. You cannot hide behind advisories which have no legal bearing and quote random figures that fly in the face of exorbitant prices faced by consumers on a daily basis. Unless you take concrete action, and not create paper tigers, this crisis will not be solved.
As far as the growth of the aviation sector under the UPA is concerned:
1. Number of Indians travelling by flights grew from 30.3 million on 2003-04 to 91.8 million in 2010-11. A 300% increase, facilitated by historically high levels of economic growth and the creation of the Indian middle class.
2. It was during the UPA era that low cost travel boomed, with the rise of Indigo, Spice Jet and Go Air (then a flourishing venture), along with the expansion of existing airlines, which ensured the Indian middle class took flights for the first time.
However, the Modi govt’s hollow PR is for all to see:
1. As per the Ministry’s own admission to the Parliamentary Standing Committee in Feb 2022, only 22 out of 94 UDAN routes are in operation.
2. The Shivamogga airport’s inauguration alone cost 21 crore, because PM Modi was cutting the ribbon himself.
3. The death of Jet Airways, the ongoing struggles of SpiceJet for many years, and now this GoFirst saga are all testament to the complete mismanagement of the aviation sector by the Modi regime.
Hard facts and everyday suffering of the middle class cannot be wished away by distorting figures and misrepresenting the actual facts on the ground.
1. With youth unemployment at 23% (a global record), 23 crore people pushed into poverty, and 80cr Indians rely on the govt for food security tells you that these economic growth numbers is only of, for, and by the rich. The middle class continues to suffer under the twin attacks of unemployment and crippling price rise, compounded by your hands-off approach to regulating prices in the aviation sector as well.
2. Take the example of Kannur Airport’s current schedule, which stipulates 252 monthly GoFirst flights. However, not a single flight has been replaced after GoFirst went bust. At Pune airport, 30% slots are vacant due to the GoFirst crisis and SpiceJet’s poor performance. If the Indian economy was indeed growing, airlines would be increasing their capacity. Instead, they are being allowed to charge sky-high rates to remain afloat.
3. In March 2023 itself, airlines had written to the AERA claiming that Adani-owned airports are proposing exorbitant tariffs, especially thorugh high landing and parking charges at Lucknow, Ahmedabad and Mangalore airports. (https://t.co/gWYYma6RWW)
4. Even 48 hours after the train tragedy, flights to and fro Bhubaneshwar remained extremely expensive, with Bhubaneshwar-Chennai even costing Rs. 42-60k. Yet another case of a toothless advisory.
5. Instead of answering about the excise tax burden imposed by the centre, you are blaming states for something which is rectifiable at the central government level.
Even as we speak, flights on key routes such as DEL-BLR are beyond the reach of the common man. @JM_Scindia are you still going to defend these rates?
This govt has been incapable of curbing this price rise, preventing predatory behaviour on part of airlines, and has facilitated a loot at the hands of crony airport operators. That is the true picture of the aviation sector under PM Modi.
PM Modi famously said that those wearing ‘Hawai Chappals’ can travel on a ‘Hawai Jahaaz.’ With Delhi-Mumbai flights crossing Rs. 15k+ everyday, his words sound like a cruel joke.
These skyrocketing airfares are creating havoc among the middle class. The government’s complete free pass to the airlines, coupled with their rampant privatisation spree, is responsible for the dire situation today. The @MoCA_GoI must confront some hard facts:
1. When the economy is in doldrums, it is criminal to lift the caps placed on airfare, like the govt did in Aug’ 22.
2. With Go First collapsing, and with SpiceJet barely flying any routes, why did the government have no strategy to correct this massive dip in the number of flights being flown?
3. The pricing algorithm will keep pushing the price up in cases of a high demand-supply mismatch. Does the government have any concrete intervention planned to check these airfares?
4. Are the profits earned by private airport operators, especially Adani with its mega investment in airports, coming out of the pockets of the common man?
5. Why was the Ministry so apathetic to the people’s suffering, that it allowed the flight prices from Bhubaneswar and Kolkata to go out of control when the Balasore train tragedy took place?
6. The taxes on ATF fuel are a noose around the neck of airlines, the government should ensure the high cost is not passed on to the consumers.
