Community and the feeling of belonging are important for a student's success. Most LGBTQ+ reported avoiding school functions (77.6%) and extracurricular activities (71.8%) because they felt unsafe or uncomfortable. #stopsf80

As students feel unsafe, their grades and learning will be harmed as well. 32.7% of LGBTQ students missed at least one entire day of school in the past month because they felt unsafe or uncomfortable. #stopsf80

Most LGBTQ students in Iowa experienced anti-LGBTQ victimization at school. Most never reported the incident to school staff. SF 80 will put up even more barriers between students and school staff. #stopsf80

The forced outing of students to their families could increase the suicide risk of LGBTQ+ youth. In 2000, when police threatened to out Marcus Wayman, 18, to his family. Later Marcus died by suicide. #stopsf80

The LGBTQ+ population is at an increased rate of suicide compared to their cisgender, heterosexual counterparts. 40% of transgender adults have attempted suicide in their lifetime, compared to less than 5% of the general U.S. population. #stopsf80

Coming out can be a difficult or even traumatic experience. 40% of LGBT adults have experienced rejection from a family member or a close friend. Don't make it more difficult. #stopsf80

Less than half of students feel safe disclosing their gender identity. SF 80 would make students feel less safe to rely on their teachers or school counselors. Tell your Education Committee to stop SF 80 and protect our students!

The act of outing someone is detrimental because it is a violation of their privacy. It was so detrimental that the Social Security Administration to end its policy of outing transgender employees to employers in 2011.
