This isn't a troll but a genuine question - what exactly has he done so far for this level of appreciation?
If you mean he changed the course by making people vote for a 'new' party then let me remind you he did not even receive a 50% mandate.
In 2019 @RW_SRILANKA and the entire organizational team in UNP was blamed for the defeat of @sajithpremadasa .I was the national organizer at that time.If that argurement was true then 5 years later he had own to do his own team doing his campaign including my BIL .Dont be sour losers.Every candidate wanted to win.Dont be sour grapes
@melanirgk@munza14 Both used a mixture of fear and hope to get elected. "වැඩකරන විරුවා" and "Wiyath maga" helped to build the hope for Gota. In AKD's case, he has many times that this is the last time for people. Which also instigates fear. Only the future can tell whether the latter will succeed.
Though many did not vote for him, President @RW_SRILANKA stood tall and rescued Sri Lanka from the depths of an economic crisis. Today, Sri Lanka lost, but you will forever be my beloved political leader. Your dedication will be remembered. 🇱🇰 #Leadership#Gratitude" 🙏🇱🇰🇱🇰
@melanirgk@munza14 First, you said fear, now you say trust. Which one is it? People believed and trusted them both. One screwed up on the economy. Only time will tell about the other.
@ForzenStur AKD didn't ride the nationalist vote, he rode the anti-system vote. Even the people who voted Sajith in 2019 for the dislike of Rajapaksas voted for AKD this time. This is why SJB should have represented the system.
It was a grand old battle between system vs anti-system. The issue was that SJB thought of themselves as the anti-system when they were clearly part of the system. They should have joined hands with Ranil to represent the economic stability and reforms rather than copying NPP.
To paraphrase Late Mangala Samaraweera, “History will remember Ranil Wickremesinghe as best President Sri Lanka never had”
Everyone who gave their best to make that a reality can walk with nothing but pride.
@SajithWins2024 Don’t make stories to coverup Sajith’s campaign failure. @EranWick@HarshadeSilvaMP@KabirHashim4 made his campaign interesting but all others were garbage. He offered everything Free without consulting and became laughing stock
RW can't win an election alone, and neither will SP. I don't see Harsha/Eran/Kabir, etc., as viable winners. For me, Gamini Atukorale was the last centre-right politician capable of mounting a win. I feel the centre will be in the political wilderness for a while.
@KusumW Right wing is convinced that SP is an idiot so there’s no way they’ll regret this outcome .. now let him retire after 3 defeats and bring a new leader who can unite
My post mortem of SP & SJB loss;
1) Alliances with those responsible for the econ crisis
2) Failure to clearly articulate reforming the current establishment
3) Incoherent messaging
4) No show in debates & interviews
5) Arrogant dismissal of calls for transparency
6) Baby SJB
@ForzenStur A opposition party coming to power defeating a government is a common occurrence that happens all the time. It is the first time in history that the main opposition lost to another opposition party. Let that sink in.
@ForzenStur So SP addressed those root problems? Look where he ended up. Sajith was the luckiest opposition leader who had his powerful opponents crumble before him. Yet he could not come to power. He let another opposition party come to power. What a total failure…
@ForzenStur I'm sorry you and your leader didn't understand the basics of politics. Sajith will go down in history... or wait, will he even be remembered in history? Who remembers all the opposition leaders anyway...
