I’ve declined 2 founding designer roles this year- not due to comp, but because few startups value what a first designer brings across all aspects of the company. They’re the heartbeat of your product. If you expect “cracked” work, design needs a higher seat at the table. Until that changes, high-craft designers will keep choosing teams that give them the space and environment to do their best work.
