🇧🇦 Today marks 31 years since the Srebrenica genocide

In 1995, Bosnian Serb forces rolled into Srebrenica, a town the UN had promised was safe. That promise didn't hold.

They pulled thousands of Bosniak men and boys away from their families, and pushed everyone else out.

Over the next few days, more than 8,000 of them were killed, and buried in mass graves so nobody would find out.

The world's top courts, the ICJ and the ICTY, both called it a genocide, the worst thing Europe had seen since World War II.

To this day, genocides are occurring, and the international community seems as powerless to stop them as it was 31 years ago.
