Paid ₹44,773 for a policy from @HDFCERGOGIC but was charged an extra ₹500 as a “convenience fee” during credit card payment. Support says they cannot disclose what the fee is for.

What’s worse — the convenience fee isn’t even fixed and seems arbitrary. How are customers supposed to trust such opaque charges?

Its been two since my airtel wifi has stopped working and I haven’t got any help from @airtelindia @Airtel_Presence @airtelnews . Whenever I call them I get the same response, it will take 24hrs more. Oh btw, I came from using excitel and hathway. And they were even more helpful

Story of 1 paisa:

December 2024, @ICICIBank sent me a bill of 9 thousand and some paisa, but on their app when I clicked pay it showed me total - 1 paisa, now I trust tech enough I generally don’t look at pdf’s to cross verify the amount.

I have occasionally questioned the point of patriotism. On one level, a country is a geo-fenced piece of land, so everyone within that fencing are labelled country men & women by default. What is romantic about that? When you see injustice, disorder & suffering around you, you begin to wonder why are you supposed to love your country. Is it so we stay obedient enough to not question that which needs to be fixed? Is it so we stay in line with the collective? What if patriotism is an institutionalised construct of civil society to bend everyone to the state’s will? What if the point is to use conscience as a way to keep crime on the low? There’s a monster inside everyone, after all. But no, it’s not that. Most of us behave better outside our own country. Is it a product of the literary and arts movements of the past? Hindi literature gives this form of expression an identity of its own in the “Veer ras”, but there are parallels in many other cultures — from Europe’s romantic nationalism to the Irish revival to Mao’s cultural revolution to the Soviet’s patriotic socialism. Clearly, there’s some universality to the emotion.

Then I am reminded of India’s history and realise that as a post-colonial nation, patriotism is almost a moral responsibility. Too many people sacrificed too much for us to simply exist and live today. We can choose to agree or disagree with the acts and ideologies of specific individuals, but regardless, enormous personal sacrifice was involved. Freedom is what every human ultimately wants. The striving for that freedom to be more and better never ends, but we’d have been a lot more behind in that quest if not for those who came before us and not only ensured basic freedom for us but in fact constitutionalised it, so we could all co-exist despite our individual quests towards our personal meaning of freedom. “Tolerance” is a strange choice of premise for the constitution, but it is the right one, for a country this big and complex.

And thus, every once in a while, I force myself to feel and express some patriotism towards the country I was born in and towards the magnificent constitution Dr Ambedkar and his team left for us, even if only to not allow myself to become a thankless little Indian.

When it comes to retain the customers, companies do tell a lot of lies. Same thing happened with me, I was in the process of shifting houses, I raised a request to @LivpureSmart to shift the RO, they committed a time of 5 days and it’s the 7th day, no idea when it’ll be installed

In today’s social circles, there are very few people left who *DON’T* jump into hype trains.

As @manasjsaloi says, there’s more to lose by not congratulating the fundraise, the product launch, the acquisition where everyone else is piling on. To actually come out and comment against it - even basic constructive criticism of a product, or objective dislike something, especially when it goes against the hype train, is to actively harming your standing in the circlejerk.

I’ve started to make note of the very very rare instances of “anti signals”, of people who are usually part of the zeitgeist, who are found talking everyday about today’s main story, when they very inconspicuously stay silent and don’t board a certain hype train. It is hard to stand out and say something negative about something everyone is hyping up, but it costs less to just stay silent. And some of the rare ones, do that.

Absence of signal, in this case, is the signal of absence. Because that’s the most you can do without raising too many eyebrows.

It has started to become a very high signal, low noise mechanism to sniff out bullshit - when I find my little list of “antimemetic division” people not speaking about something.

There are very very few who can guard themselves against conformity bias, who can keep their own bullshit filters up all the time. Who can stop themselves from saying something is great because everyone they know around them is saying it is great.

And I feel the antimemetics division people recognise others in the crowd over time. But they will not shake hands in the public. They’ll tip their hat quietly in the DMs, they’ll let you know that you can trust each other going forward.
It is important for this acknowledgement to happen in private. Because if these people are perceived to be a bloc in public, it’ll make their ability to stay objective less effective. Once the world thinks you’re a group, you become more prone to groupthink, and you lose the very ability to sift through the bullshit.

@LivpureSmart They did and they acted like they aren’t concern about getting it installed. Hence I proceeded with the cancellation of the service and I will get it done by other competitors who will surely get it done by today evening and will not make me revolve around you guys.
