Pretty soon I won't be able to walk behind him to make sure he (and other kids) can cross. If no crossing guard is guarunteed, then how about a flashing sign that pedestrians can activate? PLEASE. What needs to be done to make this happen?
@CityofOlatheKS@OlathePolice@KCTV5
More often than not, there is no crossing guard in the afternoons. That being said:
Today, a kind police officer turned on his lights, moved into the intersection, and allowed my son to safely cross in the crosswalk. THANK YOU!

There is supposed to be a crossing guard pilot program starting today at 159th&Brougham. Where is the crossing guard?! We made sure to wait until at least 7:45am, so the flashing 25mph lights were on. @CityofOlatheKS@OlathePolice@KCTV5
Just now, on the walk home from ACE. What if my son had dropped his water bottle? He could have been hit because the driver didn't let us fully cross before he turned. Swell. @OlathePolice@CityofOlatheKS@KCTV5@olatheschools
Going home from ACE this morning at the 159th&Brougham crossing. Oblivious drivers, unsure drivers, a lone pedestrian, and frustrated everyone.

This morning at 159th&Brougham walking to ACE. Better, but still not safe-for anyone. @KCTV5@OlathePolice@CityofOlatheKS
I understand solutions are in the works and I appreciate the understanding that I will continue recording and posting.
@CityofOlatheKS@KCTV5@OlathePolice @ACEOttersRock I appreciate the suggestion, however I have already gone the OlatheConnect route several times (to no avail) before taking it to a more public platform.I will continue recording and posting until a solution is reached.
I'm back! After some luck with breaks in traffic whilst crossing at 159th&Brougham, today was the day my luck ran dry. I briefly saw a hiring sign at the crosswalk, but today it's gone. What's the verdict @CityofOlatheKS ?
@KCTV5@OlathePolice @ACEOttersRock
@flaggymom@CityofOlatheKS@KCTV5@OlathePolice @ACEOttersRock I hope so! This is dangerous for both pedestrians and drivers. I was also surprised they turned, but I've had a bus speed past me while I've been standing at the crosswalk so.... π€·
Every single day a few of us brave this crosswalk at 159th&Brougham. This is NOT okay!! Future families, current families, runners, etc., all deserve to have safer crossings!
My water bottle fell out of my purse half way across at 159th&Brougham. Seriously, is it going to take someone getting hit in order to make this a safe crossing for current and future families?

Walking to school this morning, obviously in the crosswalk at 159th&Brougham, and still zooming past.

For over a decade parents have been fighting for a safer crosswalk at 159th&Brougham, yet the city won't install lights or a crossing guard unless 25+ pedestrians are crossing during certain times of the day. It's too dangerous to cross, so of course hardly anyone uses it!
