[0813] The first trial of Kim Seui, head of Garosero Research Institute, who has been brought to trial on charges of spreading false information about famous YouTuber Tzuyang (real name Park Jeong Won), will begin today.

Judge Jeong Ahyoung of the Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Division 20 Single Judge will hold the first trial hearing in the first instance at 11:10 a.m. on August 13 for Kim Seui’s case, involving charges of violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, etc. (defamation), violating the Stalking Punishment Act, and making threats.

Kim Seui is accused of using Tzuyang’s private life to create and distribute provocative content for the purpose of generating profits through fundraising, including through a sponsorship account.

He is also accused of forcing Tzuyang to make a broadcast explaining the contents of the revelations and maliciously defaming her.

The investigation into this case began after Tzuyang’s side filed a complaint with Seoul Gangnam Police Station in July 2025.

On March 31, 2026, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office’s Women and Children Crime Investigation Division 2 indicted Kim Seui without detention on charges of violating the Information and Communications Network Act, violating the Stalking Punishment Act, and making threats.

Separately, Kim Seui has also been detained and brought to trial on charges of spreading false information about actor Kim Soohyun.

Kim Seui is accused of claiming that Kim Soohyun had dated the late Kim Saeron, who was a minor at the time, for six years, and creating and distributing fake SNS conversation screenshots and audio files using AI and other methods. The related trial is scheduled to be held tomorrow, August 14.

The legal battle surrounding actor Kim Soo-hyun is entering a new phase as comedian-turned-YouTuber Kwon Young-chan has been forwarded to prosecutors without detention on charges of defaming Kim Soo-hyun. With Garo Sero Research Institute (Gaseyeon) CEO Kim Se-ui already forwarded under arrest, and 'God of Business' CEO Eun Hyun-jang intertwined in the situation, legal and entertainment circles are paying close attention.

◆ Kwon Young-chan Forwarded to Prosecutors... Started by Fans' Complaint

The Seocho Police Station in Seoul forwarded part of the charges against Kwon Young-chan regarding defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office without detention last month. Kwon is accused of making false claims on his YouTube channel last year, alleging that Kim Soo-hyun had dated the late Kim Sae-ron when she was a minor.

Kwon’s stance is that he was explaining general grooming methods at the time, rather than specifically pointing out the case of Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Sae-ron.

Although this case began with a third-party complaint filed by fans, defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act is an offense that cannot be prosecuted against the victim's explicit will (a non-prosecution against the victim's desire offense). Therefore, if the victim, Kim Soo-hyun, expresses a desire not to punish Kwon during the prosecution's investigation or trial, indictment will become impossible, making Kim Soo-hyun’s official position a crucial variable.

◆ Gaseyeon's Kim Se-ui Forwarded Under Arrest... Impact on 12 Billion Won Damages Suit and Resumption of Civil Trial

Unlike Kwon Young-chan, Gaseyeon CEO Kim Se-ui has been forwarded under arrest on charges of spreading false facts and defaming Kim Soo-hyun.

Kim Soo-hyun and his agency, Gold Medalist, are already pursuing a damages lawsuit worth 12 billion KRW (approx. $8.8M USD) against the bereaved family and Gaseyeon officials.

At the time, the police stated in the arrest warrant application:

"Kim Se-ui was well aware that Kim Soo-hyun did not date the late Kim Sae-ron when she was a minor, and that Kim Soo-hyun was not the cause of the late Kim Sae-ron's death. Nevertheless, he distributed false information for the purpose of slander."

The prosecution noted in the indictment that Kim Se-ui threatened to leak materials related to Kim Soo-hyun during a YouTube live broadcast, making statements such as, "Kim Soo-hyun dated Kim Sae-ron since she was in her second year of middle school." He broadcasted false facts 25 times on YouTube to defame Kim Soo-hyun by revealing untruths with slandering intent.

Civil damages lawsuits previously filed by Kim Soo-hyun and advertisers, which had been temporarily paused, are now resuming. Going forward, the prosecution's indictment and criminal guilty verdicts are highly likely to serve as key evidence in the civil trials.

◆ Entry of 'God of Business' Eun Hyun-jang... Assisting Kim Soo-hyun Investigation While Targeting Gaseyeon

Another variable in this massive legal battle is YouTuber Eun Hyun-jang ('God of Business'). Eun secured a 50% stake in Gaseyeon while taking counter-measures against them.

Eun stated that he submitted Gaseyeon’s broadcast video data and revenue details—which he secured—to investigative authorities as cooperation materials for the Kim Soo-hyun defamation case. While taking legal steps against Gaseyeon, he appears to be aiding the investigation into Kim Soo-hyun's case to heighten the severity of Kim Se-ui’s criminal punishment.

◆ Will Kwon Young-chan Join as an Additional Civil Defendant?

Kwon Young-chan was not an immediate defendant in the 12 billion KRW civil lawsuit previously filed by Kim Soo-hyun's side. However, now that the police have forwarded part of Kwon's case to prosecutors, the legal pathway is open for Kim Soo-hyun’s side to file a separate civil lawsuit for compensation and emotional damages against Kwon.

This transfer of the case is significant as it shows that fans raising issues led to a legal judgment by investigative authorities. At the same time, the case has entered a new stage, pending the prosecution's decision to indict and Kim Soo-hyun's response.
